Recently had some photos taken (the new ones on my profile) I'm trying to upload them to an advertising site. Unfortunately they are too big. How do I reduce the size of the file?

That's easy Silk, Just use paint program. At your windows system (XP), click start,All programs, accessories, then paint. Open the file (your photo). Click on Image, select Strech, then you can reduce or increase the size of the photo (50%, 60%, 100, 200).
put 50 on width and lenght to reduce to 1/2 size. Save file on new filename.Good luck Silk!

To change image sizes quickly, you can use ShrinkPictures, an on-line service that has been around for ages and is relatively straightforward.
You get better results if you use a program on your computer, it just takes a little trial and error to find the best options for the photos you're using. Paint.NET is a pretty nifty program, and it's free.
If you want really good, optimized results then the best bet is to use someone who is good with Photoshop (or their preferred image editing program), either as a favour or a paid service. There are loads of graphic artists around (have a look on Gumtree and you'll see some).
Just make sure that:
- if you are editing your photos yourself, you work on copies and not the originals
and
- if you get someone else to edit them, that they sign a confidentiality contract saying they are not allowed to use the images in any way shape or form.

The above methods are all sound, follow one that your comfortable with.
Only advice I'll add is to ensure you save them as a different file name when you make changes. This way you'll still have the originals should you want them for some other purpose down the track.

part time events photographer, if it's just resizing whilst keeping the quality, I am more than happy to assist if you require, my choice of program is definitely photoshop or elements

Plans for New Years Eve were scarce. The choices were a party at my brothers house (boring) or party at a friends place (slightly less boring). I had decided the latter would be my best option. There had been a number of propositions from clients. However there are certain times I feel are to be spent with people you love; Christmas, New Years, my birthday etc.
Arriving home to discover two of my friends waiting with three lovely bottles of champagne and an invite to attend a pool party. The invite came from an ex boyfriend who now resided in Los Angeles. Each year he returns in whirl wind fashion over the festive season with interesting offers of fun and intrigue. You never know who, what or where you will end up whilst in his company. A bottle of champagne, a shower, an outfit change and we were entering the address into the GPS.
Driving out to Canningvale I began to wonder what I was getting myself into. This house was in the middle of nowhere. As we slowly crept up the driveway the house began to emerge. It was a beautiful mansion. Who would think? A mansion in the middle of Canningvale. The four of us began to joke about the size of the house.
The clients I see own some exquisite houses. However this was the epiphany of opulence. From the massive artworks lining the walls of each and every room, to the marble columns, wooden decking ceilings and the massive herd of wild horses carved into the wall of the pool. It was like stepping into a movie scene.
The fabulous thing about this house in comparison to the homes I have partied at in Swanbourne or other wealthy suburbs, was the guests. Everyone was so down to earth. No one was short of money. On the contrary, each of us had plenty of cash. However the conversion was fun, witty and intelligent. it was so refreshing.

Canning Vale is a real surprise package. You'd expect it to be more lower class around a commercial area but there's plenty of 1mil+ McMansions around.
Bit like the northern coastal suburbs (mindarie, burns beach, jindalee). Big $$ houses, ocean views but people who care not about living the "lifestyle" in cott or mosman park. And instead of leasing bmws, jags and rangies, they buy hsv's and Landcruisers.

Glad you had a good time Alex....... you find great houses in the oddest of places sometimes.
Huge mansions in the Gascoyne/Murchison/Pilbara region where I worked once as a stock rep......... 9 bedrooms, 4 baths, 2 kitchens, 3 dining rooms.... all under one roof and it was not the shearers quarters.

I'm glad you had a good one mine was spent at home with a disabilities support carer and smoking the last of my cigarettes before giving them up as a New Year's resolution, it's two days later and so far I haven't taken it back up.... Fingers crossed X

Great site. Simple to navigate. I guess there will be a reviews page in due course? Might be better if the "click here for a guaranteed affair" at the top of the pop-up photos to people to your booking page rather than off to another website (sponsored link), but I suspose someone is paying good money for that spot?
