Find the word whore to be offensive, very derogatory and disrespectful to any woman, but I think who ever would call some-one a whore, knows exactly what they are wanting to imply to that person, I believe ones ignorance of industry ladies play a big part. unfortunately some just have no idea, and need their mouths smacked in. oopps my bad! my truth :p

Personally i find it offensive that you would even ask that question.
Maybe some girls might like it but that would have to be my number one most hated word.
Its a derogative term to used describe someone that you have zero respect for.

And i feel that you are only asking it because you get some secret thrill out of asking what seems to be an innocent question but is really an underhanded way of insulting women.

I dont think the writer of the question was trying to be insulting in any way and sorry if you took it as so!
Its when someone snarls it at you then its meant as an insult but personally it never bothered me as I understood they didnt realise what the job entails besides the obvious! ie can be quite empowering and also great fun! haha

So many terms to discuss! I hate the word whore and am quite uncomfortable with prostitute even though it is a technical term for what I do. Working lady is ok, a little twee I think. I only use the term WL on forums. Anyone can be a service provider so unless it's used in context it's meaningless. When I'm with friends we use hooker in an ironic sense, almost as a term of endearment. If someone were to ask what I do (not that I'd tell them), I'd say I'm an escort. Courtesan is a great concept but such an incredibly dated term that I'd probably get laughed at if I used it! It's a lovely descriptive word though.

I once suffered under a very pedantic English teacher and one of his pet themes was what he called "Purr Words" and "Snarl words" which is pretty easy to work out.

"Whore" is most definitely "snarl" and more suitably used as a deliberate insult than as a job description.
"Prostitute", in my vocabulary, is not far behind it face to face but is often use in the press so I suppose it is clinical rather than offensive.

When I was active in "The Willow World" ( now there is a poetic description;) ) I referred to my companions by their names or collectively as "Ladies" which is what they are and also, to me, indicates the respect they deserve.

Perhaps one day when the world has moved past political correctness it will no longer be necessary to use coy euphemisms for the ladies who choose this noble profession but I doubt it will happen in my lifetime.

Be careful how you use this word.

JERUSALEM ā€” Israel detained an ultra-Orthodox man on Wednesday on suspicion of calling a woman soldier a ā€œwhoreā€ on a public bus for refusing his appeals that she move to the back of the vehicle, a police spokesman said.

The incident came days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to crack down on acts of harassment by religious zealots, with the publicity surrounding these cases risking upsetting his political alliances with ultra-Orthodox parties.
Look what I found

As usual, context matters ! I'll happily refer to myself as a whore, but would hesitate to use the word with an unfamiliar W/L. Clients should probably steer clear, until they know the lady is cool with it ! Can be a big turn on, or off in the room too. Always just check she's okay, with open and clear communication ^.^

I'd totally have to agree with the majority here. I'd be strung up by my earlobes if I ever called one of our WL's a "Whore." It's disrespectful to those who take their work in this industry seriously. There are some interesting titles I haven't seen before here although I like the term "Professional". I think it brings that extra sense of class and exclusivity to the work.

There are many names, which can be used to describe a woman who offers her services for sex. Some more pleasant than others.

I find Working Lady to be the most respectful. Do the WL's here, get offended if they are referred to as whores or prostitutes?

I wouldn't be calling a WL a whore or prostitute. They are professionals in this field of work and so should be treated as such.

But apparently Harlot is a much more nicer word to use and have up in lights.
But all the inappropriate same to me, and it's never going to win me over.

I dont swear much at all as it has been something i grew up with not to... seems to annoy people no end... but nothing has really phased me enough to swear out load... if someone goes in calling a person a whore then you know they are an arse who should be shown the door..
