uploaded a newer version and even added the link next to your name when logged in. It is currently showing myself and maryanne as being in chat, buyt cabt even get the login screen so this one may take me a couple of days sorry.

no, not much luck mate, waiting on someone to speak to someone else who works with forums etc and may know what to do. the source code of the .php page is showing nothing on there, have reloaded, then taken it off and uploaded the old one back again as well as the new one only bought a blank page even after I followed instrcutions. its weird and a little out of my league but haven't given up hope yet

I did offer my advice, however did not recieve a response? And no IP will allow access to restricted files on its server to anybody for security reasons. However, you should still have access to all your uploaded files and thats all you need.
And you will not see any php source code on a page if written in php, because its server side. If you are working on your local machine writing php and want to test it locally, you must install your own server on your machine.

okay, no more beating around the bush here.
I tried to get the chat fixed but had no resources (like moula moula) forthcoming to get it done so was doing with the help of another member for free to try and fix it.
As we needed access to the server, to which I had been cut off from by the new owners of langtrees (even though I was allowed access), I couldn't do that and we couldn't fix it like that either. so that is the reason why it is where it is now.
As mentioned, Maryanne had said not to bother about it and as my hands were tied, I couldn't and didn't and it was taking up too much of my time and this other persons time as well.
This may change next week if what maryanne said to me yesterday happens and we then may be able to fix the chat room.
Time was spent trying to do so, by two people who went as far as they could with what they could utilise.
End of story - nothing to do with advice given and ignored or anything, etc, was completely out of our hands.

We were wondering if the chat room could be put back.
Have seen a free chat room hosted by bravenet which looks ok.

Would it be worth a try see how it goes ?

Yes, the chat room in here was ok when people bothered to log in but it really was under utilised. There could have been 15 or 20 people in the forums but none in chat. Maybe we should look outside .... we occasionally go to the newbienudes chat room, think its called the passion pit and you dont have to pay to join. Any other ideas??

I'll have a look around and see what options are available.
I don't have any information on what happened with the old chat room, but I believe that many of the older flash-based chats becae buggy after an upgrade.
I'll see what Mary-Anne says about re-installing a chat, if there is sufficient interest. I'm incredibly busy at the moment, so if anyone has experience managing a chat function on a site, can you let me know what you use and/or like? That would be most beneficial.

I like the sound of a chat room, but love the posts as well, as i can go back and reword things. but it would be good for a good way to get to know people better.

Talking and chatting to someone for the first time can be quite a hard thing to do.
And i am breaking more out of my shell, more and more each week and was wondering how people go when they first meet someone for the first time - guy or girl.
Like topics of what to talk about elude me sometimes, and other times i wonder if i should be talking about things as they seem they might be too personal things to ask or even disclose to someone.
I find the more i speak to someone the first time i meet them,i may get too excited.
The result of this is the person giving me a weird look and then the uncomfortable silence.
So i thought people could post on here for people who have trouble with those opening lines, are nervous or people who just have no idea at what to say.
I always like to ask a few things, but i know what to say but for some reason i just cant seem to get it out. Hmm maybe i should take pen and paper with me and write it all down and then just point to the bit of paper.

Serena, there is another way we could do this without access to the server. Get whoever maintains the adultforums.com.au domain names to create a subdomain (say, chat.adultforums.com.au). That subdomain can be pointed to a different server, which would just host the chat page.* In fact I have a server that I could use for that, and am happy to do that for free as a favour because we enjoyed ourselves at LPs so much last weekend. I'd also make sure that a copy of all the files was sent to you so that it could easily be moved back to the main server if you eventually get access to it.
* Hopefully a better one than the last one though; I would like to use one with a Jabber back-end so that people can also connect to it with chat programs like Google Chat as an alternative to using the Web.

I did like the chat rooms too but they really weren't used that much in here compared to other forums I've seen. I don't really know how to make them more popular either.
A poll for a chat room or not has been started before and was successful enough that Maryanne did put the chat on, but their needs to be a lot of interest for her to change her mind.

I liked the idea of having a chat room, but I could never get it to work! Don't know if it was my old PC or the chat software, but I either couldn't get on, or would log in and just continually get booted. Never had a problem with other chatrooms tho. Anyway, if the chatroom came back, I'd be there! =p

I'm helping out Mary-Anne where I can with the site so I'd probably be the one to do this sort of task. At the moment I'm in the middle of setting up a new store for the company I work for out at Midland so I don't have a lot of time.
Once I manage to wrangle some free time i want to do a bit of homework and find out what the best option is. As far as I can see, there is some interest but not a high level of demand for a chat room. There are so many chat and IM options available that having a dedicated chat is somewhat redundant.
I'll be investigating, but don't expect results within the next two weeks. After that, I should have more time available.

We are being asked to put up the chat room again. As the forum is for all the members, I will agree to putting back the chat room if we get over 50 reply posts asking for it in the next seven days.
The reason i took it off is I'd rather see more posts in a chat mode and posting dropped off when the chat room was up so the forum itself became a bit boring.
I would like to hear sucess stories that people actually do more than chat, and that it is a good way to get to know each other so chat room supporters post away I will be counting.

I am not a chat room user so you have to give me some interesting info in return for me asking Lone Road if he can activate it or attach a new one to the site using the same log in.

Personally, I'd consider a chat system similar to IM better than a regular chat - stuff like Windows Live / MSN, Yahoo Chat and so on that allow more one-on-one chat to be better. Plus with stuff like Skype (which also allows video chats), MSN and other IM systems (which allow webcam conversations) and all the other systems that are already available make another chat here somewhat less essential.
However, I might be biased since I might be the one who does the installation *grin*

I don't care what sort of chat you install , first preference will be one where members don't need to re register to use and can go from the forum to chat and back like the first one we had.
I also like to open the chat room for limited hours if possible fro 5pm Perth time until midnight like we did with the last. We put up link that disappeared then chat room still worked they just never figured out how to get in.

i dont really care about having a chat room but i think a limited time chat is a great idea as it will get more ppl in the chat at the one time...like a 5 to midnight the room is open...ppl will still post then in the forum as a opposed to only chatting...
