Talkinsex... What happened?

Phoebe

Pass.
Talking Turkey Moderator
Lets talk about this forum site itself. ? what has happened to it?

and more over with less and less postings on here compared to what is used to be what is future looking like as other forum sites I have been involved with once they get like this, the future normally doesn't look that great.

Mrs Langtree's pretty much saying the forum was being taken down and if you object "too bad". May have lost alot of forum member such as wooper.

@Phoebe reflect on your own presence within the forum for answers to your own questions.

Be the change within oneself what you wish to see around you.

In the short time I have been back on Talkinsex after over a year away I've been able see the forum in a fresh light.

Community I missed is still here....but also.... a minority that seem to like to row in a different direction that the forum needs to travel, a dragging anchor.

Mary-Anne is a business woman, this forum is her investment of millions of dollars and hours, it is her right to steer her invest in whatever way she sees fit.

Change is very difficult, epically in large organization, one needs to look at improving the services and keeping an open viewpoint, the negative vibe will certainly sweep over the new horizons, but after time when the fog of negativity has lifted you will find a new beautiful horizon.

I asked the question on another post because it is my job to promote this forum. It's hard to promote something when the people already here are unhappy.

From my understanding and talking/observing I've come to these conclusions.
- The baseline is Mrs Langtrees can do as she likes, it is valid to leave if you're not a fan of how she does thing.
- The requirements to sign up to LT.com for Talking Turkey. if you do not wish too that's perfectly fine, but it doesn't limit you to the rest of the forum, just one section so there is still the opportunity to post and banter.
- People have expressed issues with some moderators in 2 ways,
The first being unhelpful comments to posts, posting for the sake of commenting without being helpful. I have seen such comments like "get in the car and drive there" or "google is your friend" when questions about establishments and such come up, instead of directing them to resources that are in the forum. Now is it a mods job to do so, no but it would be nice but also not commenting at all is also helpful. As a community we should be able to answer questions and offer insite.

The second is an air of bullying and letting certain members have special treatment. From what I can see there are no rules here and the forum has done well. Free speech is encouraged, however certain members have been allowed to make aggressive, snarky and disrespectful comments. Some have even been allowed to gang up on members of differing opinions. I have experienced this over the last couple of days. Including seeing comments made about Langtrees and working ladies which were encouraged and co-signed by a moderator. That isn't right and will definitely discourage people from participating in the forum

Do I think the moderation team is bad as a whole? No there are some fantastic people here that are helpful and welcoming. I know it's a volunteer position and all the Mods should be thanked for the hours they put into the server.
Would I like to see those who know who they are take the criticism, look at themselves and keep moderating to improve? Absolutely

No one is asking for heads on pikes but if we have the ability to change what we can in the forum to bring it back to the lively welcoming place it once was, we should do that. The more the merrier!

You are welcome to correct me on anything I've said. You are also welcome to DM me. I want this place to succeed :)

For a forum to last on into the future it needs to be fluid. Society changes so does the needs of people accessing forums, progress in forum layout is not just refreshing but needed.

New members are the lifeblood that keep a forum valid into the future. Being welcoming and mentoring them on the site helps them to grow to be the valued members for tomorrow.

Log out and look at the forum in the light of someone arriving after a web search. Are you seeing a welcome mat in the public news feed or threads where members are at odds.

We are all collectively involved in how friendly a forum is by our interaction with each other.

I don’t think Talkinsex will be on life support anytime soon but dead wood needs pruning to encourage healthy growth.

I think some of the Talking Turkey forums could be combined. Brothels and AMPs could be combined with Privates, Massages etc and even include the small Regional forum. Much like the open forum, it's easy to identify posts of intrest.

Not at all, after 13,000 posts and being on here for 10 years nearly, this is the saddest I have seen it.. you look daily and there is hardly any members logged in, and even less commenting....
Once you start bringing censorship in & acting in a handed manner against someone's post because you don't agree with what they posted, is sure sign the death knell has begun!
Using the word silly for sex was as dumb as they come!

As mentioned, having a seperate membership process for Talking Turkey wasn’t a great idea, particularly when there is nothing special on TT anyway. The same with having to register on LTs site to read the Blogs, which where going to be the new thing, but haven’t really gone anywhere.

Phoebes earlier post is right, at any point the day there are not many people logged in.

I don’t know if I have the answer, but these are my observations.

Not to forget that the online world has changed exponentially in the last 10 years. There are far more options out there now than when the forum started off. People decide on what platform they want to spend their time on and there is only so much time available.

I have been on the Forum since 2010 and yes, it has changed but I don't think "better" or "worse" are the fitting terms to describe the change.
The Forum is dynamic and the people on there decide in what direction it evolves. Some like it - some don't - let's go with the flow. What's the big deal?

I'm pretty sure most people are talking about the changes from earlier this year, it's a far cry from what it was in Dec/Jan pre all the changes to what it is now, that's "the big deal".

Agree completely Rochelle. Go with the flow. There have been big changes over recent months and the forum needs to find its identity again. The vibe is created by the members. I've only been a member for 9 years and from my experience the forum is continually evolving based on member contributions and needs. There have definitely been some low points where the vibe was controlled by some strong and unpleasant personalities. There have also been high points where everyone was sharing and the chats were interesting. TBH I think the forum was at one of the low points in January this year. Change was needed, and clearly Mrs MAK saw that and had the courage to do it (and pay for it). As you said it's not about better or worse, it's about a community sharing and engaging with each other in a respectful way. Good banter, open and welcoming, non judgemental, taking the piss out of each other in a good natured way. It's about having a laugh and learning stuff. It's sad that two long time members have asked for their accounts to be deleted. I suspect because they don't feel respected or wanted. These long time members are the keepers of the flame for TS and I for one would be very sad if they left. There is room for today's newbie and long term members. We just have to navigate the path forward together.

@mrys you are quite correct that it is sad to see long-term members wanting an account deletion.

When it has been repetitive behaviour, over the years, I beg to differ that it is a feeling of being disrespected or unwanted.

In some instances it is attention seeking, manipulative or controlling behaviour.

Not just keepers of the flame but in some instances snuffers of the flame too.

If people feel triggered, log off, have a break and calm down.

I agree WB. Best to log off, cool down and revisit when the emotions are calmer. That's true of most of our life decisions. I know only too well whiskey decisions are the worst :banghead: :-)

I was referring to the content not the structural change.

The problem is the structural change led to the content change, there is barely any content now.
Sorry but I can't see how.
The content changed because the members using the forum as a platform have have changed over the years. Content on a platform never stays the same.

I tend to wonder if such threads as these, which surface every so often, are just distractions.

The original poster pulled a pin on a grenade then left the room....

The quiet achievers on the forum ignore such discussions and continue to go about their reason for being on Talkinsex adjusting if need be.

Am I missing something regarding the Talkin Turkey Private forum? It doesn't appear private.
