Yes, my thoughts too, but he was pretty sneaky, keeping hostages between him and the window. There is also the concern about the glass deflecting the bullet. If they wound him, he would probably have killed all the hostages.
I guess the cops did the best they could, but I hope if it ever happens again, they will take the first opportunity to put a bullet in his head.
We'll never stop the lone wolf nutter, but we can make sure they don't win by including the Muslim community in main stream Oz. Isolate anybody and you breed extremists.
They have a distorted view of the world filled with hate. We need to prove them wrong - 'Ill ride with you' is perfect !
We should paint it on all our walls, on TV ads, skywriting, everywhere.

Yes it makes you wonder why they would release someone that has been charged with violent offences. I know there is innocent unit proven guilty, however surely the initial evidence should be taken into consideration when determining if one is eligible for bail.

All these so called extremists, if they look up the food chain they should see only bum holes. What the upper chain management promised them after life, is just a croc of cow dung. So thanks for being the pawns in someone's sick propaganda war game. It's BS to use religion as a front. Holding innocent civilians under gun point is a very cowardliness act.

Sadly there are extremists everywhere - try going to the American mid-west and burning a bible on a street corner !

On the news this morning..........the police apologise to T A for the fact that the guy had a gun.........now apparently he was registered for a gun license in the police file but the gun licensing apparently didn't register him as a gun owner.........hmmmmmmmm...........sounds a bit fishy to me. Police trying to clean their sleeve???????

This nutjob was on parole on serious charges which go back to last December.
Why in Hell's name was he not brought to trial sooner than this?
It is unconscionable to hold a man in prison for over a year without trial but it is equally unconscionable to allow someone accused of murder and sex crimes to walk free for that long.

.. People come to Australia for different reasons.... Some to build better future, work hard, study, be happy and some....Just to destroy it.. Destroy it culture, spirit and divide people.
Thats why there is refugee camps take time to check out the motives to be here is right. When I look at this case Its neglect of not only immigration but judicial system as well. Blame them!

Sorry to burst your bubble but there is no such thing as a safe place........not with the huge difference of wealth between countries........and most likely thanks to human nature. I am not sure if we all can live peacefully together even if we all would have the same standard of comfort.......religion is just an excuse to act radically.

Rochelle, last terrorist attack in Australia was in 1984!!!! Australia was heaven, safe place compare to other countries. That's NUMBER ONE reason why I choose to live in here. There is more than 100 nationalities lived together in this place ( don't count couple of riots in Sydney and Melbourne) There no one was killed, people just protested because of certain acts of certain nationalities.... Now.... When Abbot started kissing Obama's ass its not safe anymore in here..... I am not justifying anyone, politics changed a lot in this country that's why we got siege in Sydney.

But that's what I am saying....there is no such thing like a safe place any more. Australia and NZ have been relatively safe (and still are) compared to other countries most likely because this two countries are geographically a little bit removed from the rest of the world but it was only a question of time before it would catch up. And in saying that......"catching up" is hardly the word as you pointed out the Sydney siege was the first terrorist attack since 1984 on Australian ground as there have been a few terrorist attacks against Australians after 1984.......e.g Bali bombings, the Australian embassy in Jakarta in 2004.

It was safe not because geographically Australia removed. Safety in Indonesia one story and safety in Australia would always be different. I must say the reason why it was safe here because Australian Federal Police was really good to prevent terrorism at home. I have seen personally raids on Muslim mosque near place I live. They removed all computers etc... But now its obvious immigration and judicial system went slack....
