Money accounts for everything. period. By far the only pre-cursor before anyone turns to a "potential" candidate; that includes investing towards the physical attributes itself. Couple that with the infinite competition and silly economic system in place - the failure rates behind relationships speak for themselves.
Working towards own self-gratification and progressive thinking makes more sense to me. Speaking as one of fading generation y's - "friends with benefits" - LOL - never happened to me. An entirely given, gratification luxury if there ever was one.
Recently read an SMH article (Why some men sees sex workers) - out of the 243 comments - the best (I've read) stated that for us males have to cover all this costs into dating, drinks, (questionably healthy) food, shopping; or "maintenance" generally speaking - are all just a part of stroking a woman's ego just to get laid. In other words - all women expects men to pay for admission / "Faking an interest" to get her in the mood.
Now as much as I'd like to remain myself as a gentleman, but for how long until one can run out either one of two things - time and money?

To answer the main question whether anyone would stop - depends on their circumstances. One thing for sure - It all brings back to the money supply in question doesn't it. So long as they have more than enough - then they have the luxury of choice for themselves whether to continue or stop.
