Cash option fading

Agree. Banks want cash gone. Why? Because for every electronic transaction made, they get a small piece of the pie. With cash, they never see a dime of it. Governments want cash gone too. No need to guess why.
I blame us. Yes, us. Why? Well almost all of us have super. Super invests in bank and want good returns. How do banks make good returns? Cut out human elements. Ditto shareholders.

And there's the problem. We all want to make money. No money, no honey.

so you must have heard BankWest will be closing its doors and taking 60 odd ATMs with them?? start hoarding
the cash boys or get up nice and early to book your place in the queue for those mornings at Australia Post...

my mate and I are planning to park food trucks outside those long CommBank queues on Monday mornings to keep
the masses fed and quenched.... BTW I believe Colesworth have introduced $200-$300 daily cash limits in response

the handing over of actual physical cash to WLs will now be a story saved just for older generations... πŸ˜‚

Yeah I'm worried about this as well. I don't like it but I can see that cash may be a thing of the past in about 10 years.

In other news, Bankwest announced it is closing all its branches. Most big banks are scaling back their ground operations due to more people using online banking.

A lot of businesses are going cashless , then they don't have to worry about having someone do daily banking and also security issues, like hold ups.
Unfortunately it is not illegal to refuse cash.
I still believe you should take both.

If we do go cashless, isn't it good that they're cutting down on rorts and people aren't abusing the system? This way they pay tax, we pay tax and we all suffer equal misery, no?

Alternatively, we may see the rise of barter trade and the boosting of the beer slap economy or something similar.

That's all well and good but do you want a payment to a WL showing up on your bank statement? Some punters here spend over 4K a month on WLs. Try explaining that!

Going cashless is just the same as what Canada did to the truckies . They shut down there bank accounts to starve them of their lives. It's all about control control control. YOU WILL OBEY THE LAW OR WE WILL KILL YOU OFF.
This what they are going to do to you the people.
Depopulation of the world and control your lives .

Partner/wife/the bank (when trying to get a loan).

Sure can pay in slabs of beer. The only problem is that all the WLs will be perpetually drunk and reeking of alcohol when you turn up for a root.

Yup, banks and the govt/ATO can't wait to get rid of cash. Why? Banks make a cut for every card transaction and the ATO gets rid of the cash economy and rakes in more revenue.

Guys, start using cash as much as possible. Don't let the banks make coin.

Fruitless though. The number of people on here is infinitesimal to the rest of the population.

I read that Bankwest said that they were only serving a handful of customers a day. I don't buy it. Whenever I walked past a branch, there were heaps of customers in there.

yep, funny how people believed that line straight out of the bank's mouth... what happened was if you walked into a branch, you'd be confronted by the BankWest bouncers, employees who'd get up in your face demanding to know what you want, what you're doing and to go do it at the ATM or on the bank app... Aus Post staff said they had customers being sent to them by BankWest to do their cash transactions there...

so of course BankWest achieved their quota of a 'handful of customers'... as you said I too always saw a queue of customers whenever I walked past
a branch....

As a matter of interest, am not a casino frequenter - but does the place involve much cash transactions in all the different areas of business that operate there.
I do recall it was the only time an ATM ever dispensed $100 notes to me.

The Pokies and tables still accept cash - although due to the investigation undertaken by the various State Governments, the casino now has to implement a voucher system like the pokies in many pubs in Sydney already have.

The ATM's now will only issue a maximum of $400 with whatever Debit/Credit card you are using in a 24 hour period to stop 'problem gambling'.

Been my experience too, even redirected to use one of their terminals instore for self-service.

What BS from Commonwealth. Before the merger, I knew that Commonwealth was going to eventually bend Bankwest over a barrel and torpedo it to reduce competition and redirect business to crappy Commonwealth bank. Queues in Commonwealth are atrocious. If you want service, you have to book a time with them at their convenience. Have you seen the branch on Wellington St in the morning? What a disgrace.

WLs will have to start paying taxes. Or they can trade. Give us a root and we'll give them DATY! Gone are the days where you have to pay for DATY! πŸ˜…
Why would u assume we don't pay tax? I can assure you every SW I have spoken too pays tax, it's to much of a risk if we don't and what if we want to buy a house or get finance? There would be no paper trail of our earnings. It would make no economic sense for us to evade tax especially in the long run.

Majority of my income comes via Beemit or card transactions these days anyway so I don't see much difference anymore, it does feel safer not carrying cash and the banks only accept a certain amount and question the hell out of me for why I'm depositing it anyway. The post office only accept a certain amount too.

Cash transactions have been pushed heavily to the ATMs for years this is how their figures are down because staff were forced to divert customers to the ATMS and assist them there, digital stat's went crazy and over the counter was quiet but it wasn't really true.

And this is why you declare it. Just because you do doesn't mean everyone else does. There are some WLs who earn more than the PM going by their hourly rate and being booked out. Do you think those girls at AMPs to whom punters hand over $150-$200 in cash run to the ATO and declare all that they earn? Hell no! Why do many of these AMPs not even have EFTPOS machines? πŸ€‘πŸ’ΈπŸ’°

I don't know about AMPS. I have never been to one, I just know every SW I have spoken too does tax.. I offer card payment and beemit BECAUSE I pay tax not the reason why I pay tax, I've had those options since day one. Our hourly rate and being booked out does not mean we are seeing people during all the hours advertised.
Obviously I'm not saying we all work this way but it's very stereotypical of you to assume we don't pay taxes.
