I doubt that the black box will shed much light on the matter as the pilots would not have seen it coming and all that it would record is the plane exploded.
Beautiful innocent lives taken for no reason whatsoever.
The world is definitely becoming a more hostile and aggressive place to live, when will it all stop?

I believe it to be a terrible accident, a case of mistaken identity. All airlines usually review flight paths .....
there is an unofficial war going on so why are domestic flights in that fly zone?

Sadly, it appears Mr Putin is hell-bent on regressing Russia to its infamous 'evil empire' days. Let's not forget the Soviet Union (as it was then) did something similar over 30 years ago: http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/korean-airlines-flight-shot-down-by-soviet-union
Very sad for the families, including of 28 Australians. Also a tremendous loss of leading AIDS researchers -- such a waste of potential. And sorry for poor MAS, an airline suffering a second major aircraft loss in four months (possibly unprecedented), and which will undoubtedly come in for criticism for continuing to fly that route over a conflict zone.

Sadly Joep Lange a Dutch AIDS expert was among the 298 passengers who tragically lost their lives.
Over 100 passengers were heading to the international AIDS conference in Melbourne.
Lange, had spent more than 30 years researching and fighting HIV and AIDS, was known for advocating cheap access to treatments in poor countries.
"Joep had an absolute commitment to HIV treatment and care in Asia and Africa," said David Cooper, a professor at the Kirby Institute at the University of New South Wales, who worked closely with Lange on an HIV research project in Bangkok
Vale Joep Lange and the other 297 innocent people who sadly lost their lives.

Yes I was thinking the exact same thing-all the good they may have been able to achieve....a giant step back in regards to the fight against AIDS. So sad for the loss of innocent lives and the families left behind.

I don't believe it was an accident. I think the plane came on the radar and they just shot it down regardless of the altitude. I don't believe they really cared. (As they said earlier on tonight military planes fly in a lower altitude so I assume they knew in what altitude the plain was before they shot it.
The rebels obviously using equipment provided from Russia.
Plus the America did already avoid the airspace over the Ukraine so I am surprised that nobody said an official word. It is a war zone after all.

TEOTWAWKI is closer than you think. A resurgent belligerent Russia fighting a proxy war in Ukraine and making threatening noises against other countries, the US about to support the Ukrainian government with direct military aid (as soon as Russian/separatist culpability in the MH17 shoot-down is confirmed), foreign jihadis sweeping through Syria and Iraq with some returning to the West to conduct mischief, Red China with apparent expansionist tendencies flexing its muscles and bullying its neighbours, North Korea testing nukes and lobbing the occasional missile over Japan, a major Ebola outbreak in west Africa (600+ dead and counting), antibiotic-resistant flesh-eating bacteria increasingly prevalent, the hottest quarter on this planet on record (though that's probably crap), and worst of all, a Budget Emergency right here at home which will surely make the sky fall in any moment...
Save a seat for me on that nightflight to Venus (or wherever), Armageddon outta here!
