Well, it depends what you mean by "Love."
The feeling that you get when you meet someone and "fall in love" is brought on by chemicals and does NOT last. Some people will try to tell you that it does, but it is actually impossible. No-one can continue to live with the huge levels of hormones, endorphins, etc, in the blood stream that are brought on in that state, it is a state only meant to be maintained temporarily.
I personally believe that you can only feel true and lasting "love" for your children, family, etc. But in terms of "loving" another adult who is not related to you, once the chemicals wear off, if you don't have mutual values, and respect for each other, you have nothing. So, I would personally prefer to leave the chemical bullshit out, and go straight to the mutual values and respect, at least they can be relied on.
Call me cynical if you want, I really don't care, I prefer to call it REALISTIC.
