Fair point XLNC. Truth is the only iron clad guarantee of not picking up a weird and wonderful disease is not to have sex at all.
Even if one uses a condom, one is not guaranteed not to pick up something.
So in truth one really has to decide to what extent one wants to practice safe sex.

Maybe that is why the rub 'n tug establishments are doing so well. (The more reputable ones anyway).

You can look at the external genitalia (and anal area) for rashes, cuts (blood borne virus risk), lesions (e.g. small fluid filled blisters suggestive of herpes), warts and discharges. However, you would need to be able to do an internal examination to look at the vaginal wall and cervix. A female can have inflammation and lesions evident on internal examination including the cervix. A pap smear is used to diagnose HPV (some strains cause warts others cervical cancer). An endocervical swab is taken when looking for STIs.

Of course you could have a "Gynaecologist fetish" and bring your own speculum However, I don't think that would be well received

It is good that you have a speculum, you can keep an eye on your cervix and even collect a PAP smear

nasties such as gonerea and chlamydia... probably the 2 most common. live in the urethra and unless they're at the stage where pus is or can be squeeyes out have no visabally detectable symptoms.
not much of an issue for guys but can lead to complications in women
thankfully both are easily treatable.. especially chlamydia. gonerea can some times be harder especially if it's been contracted in Asia (different strain)
