The sad and tragic news of Robin Williams death this morning is yet another constant reminder to us of that black dog lurking in the background it can take anyone.

In our society today Depression is increasing and so is the suicide rate at an alarming rate

If you, or someone you know needs help, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

ROBIN Williams is dead.

The 63-year-old actor’s body has been found in a possible suicide.

Police have confirmed that they found Williams’ body in his home around midday Monday (California time). He was pronounced dead at 12.02pm. He was last seen alive the evening before and it is believed his wife of three years, Susan Schneider, was in the house at the time.

She has released the following statement.

“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

While his publicist wouldn’t confirm that it was a suicide, they did issue this statement.

“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Williams, who won an Oscar for his supporting role in Good Will Hunting and had recently signed on to reprise his iconic role as Mrs. Doubtfire in a sequel.

He was last seen opposite Annette Bening in the indie film The Face of Love.

Williams has been married three times and has three children to two different mothers.

His first marriage was to Valerie Velardi, whom he married in 1978. They have one child, Zachary Pym, who was born in 1983. The pair divorced in 1988.

In 1989 he married his son’s nanny Marsha Garces, who was already pregnant with his daughter Zelda Rae. Their son Cody Alan, was born two years later in 1991. They divorced in 2008.

Williams married his current wife, graphic designer Susan Schneider in October 2011.

I can't imagine life being so terrible that dying is the only option. Its so sad that he and many others obviously feel that is the answer. It just goes to show that money, fame, having it all does not spare you from the awfulness of depression. Very sad-may he rest in peace

The tragic paradox of the sad clown is more common than we might think. This article from just a few months ago is now eerily almost prophetic: http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/comedy/sad-clown-no-laughing-matter-20140416-36qd0.html

'There is a common belief that comedians are funny to escape their sadness; that often, behind the jokes, pratfalls and silly voices, there hides a depressed, tortured clown, squeezing laughs from audiences in an attempt to evade crippling melancholia.
(...)
There are many comedians who have been diagnosed with some form of mental illness: John Cleese, Paul Merton, Jim Carrey, Ruby Wax, Dave Chappelle, Robin Williams, Hugh Laurie, David Walliams and Bamford have all spoken publicly about dealing with depression.

British comedian Tony Hancock, lauded as the funniest comic actor of his time, was dogged by depression and alcoholism for much of his life. He killed himself while filming a television series in Australia in 1968. ...'

The insidious thing about depression is that it can allow you to rationalise in a very intellectual and not necessarily emotive manner why self-termination is a good option, indeed the best and often only option, not only for yourself but for those you care about most. Ironically, it is those same people who, sometimes unbeknownst to themselves, can also pull you back from the brink when you think about the effect your decision will have on them as you stare into the abyss.

I couldn't believe It at first, I thought it was one of those pranks. My heart broke, his voice of the genie in Aladdin is my childhood, and I loved his stand up too. It just goes to show no one truly knows what goes on in someone's mind or how they truly feel. He spent his life making everyone else laugh and smile whilst he himself struggled to put a smile on each day. The world has lost a great icon and man. I always say make sure you think of what you're gonna say to someone, because you never truly know what those words old do to them, as the saying goes,"if you don't have anything nice to say, don't bother saying anything."

RIP, Robin, I hope you can see clear is now without that crane in the way... :)

Very sad tragic news, when someone gets to the point of feeling so low. I guess most of us can agree we have been at a point in our lives when we think sometimes life gets so difficult, but actually do it is really sad. God Bless xx
