I wouldn't say I have a problem with Timberlake but it is baffling that he's crept into 'cool'. This guy was in a boy-band. Repeat - This guy was in a boy-band. That's how he got his start.
He may be many things; He made lots of money for himself and others. Sold lots of records (both group and solo). By most measure - Pretty fucking successful. But by all measures - He's not fucking cool.
Lou Pearlman. This guy is responsible Backstreet Boys, LFO, NSYNC & some others. It's well known that Pearlman just liked being around young guys. He would get them to take their shirt off in auditions (and lord know what else!). For the record, Pearlman is one of the fattest ugly old fucks you'll ever see.
Originally, he didn't think he'd make money by simply copying the New Kids on the Block model.
Rich Cronin of one of the Lou's earlier Boy-bands (US5) was on Howard Stern (it's on Youtube) and he said he got financially ass-fucked by LP. Sold millions and literally walked away with nothing. Every band (aside from US5 funnily enough) took him to court.
Lou Pearlman is in prison now, for 25 years. Money laundering, conspiracy etc. He had a $300m ponzi scheme that didn't quite work out (do they ever??). Happy ending for him in a way - He gets to live out the rest of his days around young guys.
