But the thing is that the old system was already newst first as long as it's a thread you have read. Everytime there were new posts, you were directed to the latest unread posts when you clicked the thread. And if you wanted to see the newest posts in a thread you haven't read before, simply click the last page number. Makes perfect sense. I don't understand nor support the new system at all.I think there's nothing wrong with reading new posts first, what needs to happen is a restructure around that. The whole site was developed around reading oldest posts first. Because of that, your forum navigation was designed as such.
You have "jump to newest" link still at the top, which should be adjusted to "...oldest" so people can navigate to the oldest post. There's probably a few others, like having the OP flagged at the top of the forum so everyone know what the discussion is about. Maybe having a format choice for users to have "oldest first" or "newest first (default)" filter easily available
Reading oldest first and newest first each have their pros and cons.
Oldest allows users to gather intel on the discussion as it flows and respond as necessary. Oldest works best for "help me" discussions because it prevents necro and repeating responses.
Newest allows for a more responsive forum thread for "chats" topics. You can quickly jump in to the discussion and reply to the most recent post of comments.
I think for a forum like this, newest first works best. Works well for daily updates, responding to what is recent rather than outdated and reduces necro. Just takes getting used to.
I'm happy to try new things, but not a fan of this change unfortunately.
you guys need to click like wher you are up to on a post working a dream mfor me but then I take the time to press like so it takes me back to where I am up to I like going up rather than going downisn’t this how everyone sees their emails at work etc?
Ditto that...I think I prefer the old layout. However, is there a way of making this a user selectable option?
I read an 8 page thread from start to end. I was miserable, every page back to bottom just to select next page. When I click on a new thread, I have to go all the way to the bottom of the thread to see how it all started, then try to follow the newer posts backwards to the top (latest post) and along the way, it keeps jumping back or forward to new or older posts with replies.
In the old system, the opening post set the scene for the thread, Thereafter, if I wanted to skip down to the last two pages, all I had to do was click on them at the top or bottom of the page. Now whenever I look at a thread for the first time, I always need to scroll down to the very bottom (first establishing post) to see what it was all about, then scroll back to the most recent post, but on the way there are lots of random replies suddenly appearing !
I shudder to think about clicking on a unseen thread which is several pages long !
But I will give it a couple of days - if you don't hear from me in two days time, send the men in white coats with the straight jackets ! They will find a quivering mess on the floor below his computer desk !
Seems pretty obvious how the new change is going
Guys decision will be made next week after I have info from Xenforo and Ive had time to post a poll. It’s not that I’m against change, but I’m not a fan, seems pointless to me.
a lot of conversations on here started from an original post, or midway into a thread, this change makes it to hard to find the start of a conversation in that situation, I feel anyway.
