Living Without Regrets

Have you ever not taken up a chance to do something and wondered later what it could have been like if you did? Isn't it horrible that sense of regret of not doing something you wished you had done.

Life is too short, too grand, too great to not live it the best way you could possibly can. We should always do the most and the best we can. Be proud of ourselves and finish each day knowing we had made each choice without any regret or remorse.

Many times i have found myself regretting some of the choices i have made. Trying not to hurt the feelings of others or trying not to disappoint or let down, i have ended up hurting myself. I have learnt that it is not selfish to not do something that i don't want to do and it is ok to put ourselves first because if we don't, no one else will.

It has not always turned out to be the best decision by going ahead and taking risks but doing what one thinks is best for them at that point in time is better than not doing it at all. Anything can be dealt with when it shows itself. Procrastinating will only cause your life to stand still. Life is beautiful and there is so many people and places out there to meet and see and which ever way your path leads you, remember to look ahead with your eyes wide open and don't keep thinking about the past, that is what memories are there for.

So what kind of person are you? Do you feel as though you have done your best or do you have a long list of things that could have been? When it comes to living, do you fight or flight? I would love to hear what others have to say and what they have learned.

Story of my life Daniella. I've taken up so many different challenges and still am. No-ones perfect an people will get hurt along the way even if it was unintentional but life goes on. I don't regret the choices I've made and look forward to life's everyday knock the door. I walk thru fire all the time but I'm still in this world.

To sum up my life's decisions, I've always been the type to jump first and think later. Its given me, what I consider to be, a varied and interesting life and I love that. Have I done things that later I wished I hadn't? Of course! But I remain funflyer and eagerly await the next interesting installment (which begins next Friday by the way)!

i have never regretted any of the decisions i have made . i decide and then move on , never looking back , because if you start to regret then you will never make a decision again and you will always be looking back @ what could have been :) :) and that is not mentally healthy . :) :)

Amen Johnlou.

Too many of us waste time regretting a past we cannot change and worrying about future events which may never happen. The only time we can do anything is now.

My philosophy is to plan ahead sensibly but not to get too attached to those plans and not to be afraid to change or modify them as circumstances change. If things go belly-up then the only consolation is that the decision was made in good faith from whatever information was available at the time and there is no sense in beating myself up over it.

Of course, that is easier said than done and self-criticism is one of my biggest faults.

I being in my 50's now have some regrets but the overwhelming thought I have is that I have so much to be thankful for. I was lucky when I was in my twenties I had a friend who said to me one day quote ;
"A journey starts with the first step do not be afraid to take the first step."
Of course that journey can take you down many roads and you can take different branches of that road but the main thing is to keep going forward never look back. The past is done the future is opportunity.
I am also a big believer in a concept called "paying forward" giving without receiving anything in return. If someone offers to pay me back I decline and say pay it forward. It is a small gesture of generosity that works for me emotionally and spiritually.

Lately similar questiones have been popping up in my head. There are no perfect answers to these questions. I am more concern about "why am I having such self reflection /evaluation??" ( maybe I am having "mid-life" crisis?)
Bottom line is that we can only ask ourself these questiones after we have experience "life" - some people called it "maturity".
It's not important what's happened in the past. We can still make life changing decisions at any time. It's never too late.
Don't get hung up by the past, enjoy the future.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.

- Mark Twain (apparently, but it is disputed. However, it's a good quote whoever said it)

I have made a few mistakes in my life, who has not but I am now living my life the way I want to (or will be very soon). I have changed my life in so many ways for the better, I am fitter, healthier, happier, more at peace with myself than ever before. How did I achieve this, I had help from friends who showed me that I am worth more than I thought, showed me that I can feel and give love, these things were forgotten and missed by me even though I did not know it until a while ago.

Do I regret anything? yes, I should have woken up years ago but I am not sad about it, I now welcome the future and I do not intend regretting anything else from now on.

Belle, I so agree that our past makes us who we are today.

Thank you. I feel as though I am going through a changing period of my life. I try not to be negative or let negativity get to me. To me the glass is always half full. We must suffer to be come wise. There will always be problems but it is the way we handle them and learn from them that counts. I believe we must always take a chance, and yes, nothing is ever a sure thing but how would we know otherwise? Like they say there is no point crying over spilled milkshake. We all must learn that what is done is done and our future really is in our hands. Doesn't matter if it may not be a sure thing. Nothing is. C'est la vie.

I have always done the most and best I have been able to afford with the money I've had available. I do have regrets only in that there are many things I believe I could have done really well with my talents but never had the money to make them a reality.

Thoughts of an old Codger
I always have a go even if I fail, feel it's worse for me to have the what if or should have feelings and thoughts later. Revel in the emotions of the bad times as how can you really appreciate the high's without experiencing the lows.

It's hard to know in the moment if you are making the right decisions... How those choices might pan out, whether you'll be happy with it in the future....

I try not to worry to much about it... except when trying to decide on the matter at hand. I've faced some tough decisions and years on I can look back without regret. I can see the intention of the path and accept that I'm travelling my journey well.

But when I'm trying to decision if I want to take a leap of faith... I feel like a mess. I hate not being able to predict an outcome... It can take me a long time to come to an answer for myself.

Having said that, some of the best choices I have made I made with little thought at all.... just one giant leap of faith. It's not always the fear of what is ahead, but that which I leave behind...

I am one of those people who used to make decisions straight away, based on a mood or a certain frame of mind. Did I regret some of them? No point. I know some of those decisions were not the best but they were necessary for the time and situation I was in when I had to make them. let the past be past, learn from the experience and move on.

When making a decision as to whether to do something or not, you can only do what you think is right at the time and be confident that it was the right decision for you at the time you made it. Have no regrets but if that decision causes a problem, then deal with it in a positive way.
