knee replacement

So being the ripe old age of 24 ive been told im in real need of a knee replacement!!! yes you read right... xrays confirm the knee cap is on the two leg bones and awesomely enough the two leg bones are on each other... no soft squishy cushion between any of them to make me comfortable and pain free... next thursday i get to see the surgeon who is going to confirm the date i will be receiving it... im in absolute shitting bricks mode... but without it im in alot more agony... last week i got the gift of a cortizone injection to ease pain but alas no help there :(

you maybe wondering how the hell does a girl at 24 need a replacement :( well since i was 14 ive have rheumatoid arthristis and well as my specialist has told me the youngest and 3rd worse case hes seen... i hide the pain alot but lately my knee has been giving me absolute hell so if youve ever come to langtrees and seen me grimence in pain thats why...

im really scared of this operation as im to young because in 15 yrs or sooner (fingers crossed its not sooner) i will need another one...

has anyone in the talkinsex community had one before and could give me some tips pointers insight etc??? as me being me i like to be prepared for everything... and dont say its going to be painful as i already know it will be...

my one wish for this is a successful replacement and a speedy recovery...

Are you medically insured? Whether you're medically insured or not however, the standard of care in Australia's government hospitals is high - despite all the negativity in the papers.

I've never had one but a few of the girls I played mixed netball with (that also play basketball) have needed and they would be early - mid 20's as well. All have made a solid recovery but it seems those who over do it, too soon, run into more problems.

The closest I've come is watching the full video of my mates one lol. I'm sure it'll be all good given how many they do :)

Well, for what it is worth my late Mother had a knee replacement at the age of 80 and it saved her life. Before that she was hobbling around and the ability to move is just so important, especially when you live alone. It won't be any picnic - the rehab afterwards is pretty full-on but if an 80 year old can handle it you should be fine. Once it is done you will feel heaps better.

yeh i know. it will be better for my life. i know it will be i think its more the fact im young and well no one deserves this in their life at any age. i would never wish this on anyone not even my worst enemy. ive love and support and mom wants me home for the first few weeks to help me as i live in a big share house and no offence to my house mates but they are all so self involved and and dont care about anyone else or really themselves when it comes to looking after themselves etc

My cousin had a knee replacement at 30 She was like a bear biting her but for a week But that was more from
boredom and sitting on her Butt all day She said it was more uncomfortable than painful (The joy of modern drugs) But
the physio etc was a mental struggle
But the big thing in her mind was It is uncomfortable/painful but it hurt a hell of a lot less than the Rheumatoid Arthritis
that was crippling her originally

yeh thats what im looking forward to is an ease of the RA i mean ive got it completely through my body and i will always have it but if it eases thew pain for one area of my body and gives me a better life than im all for it... ill prob get bored being bedridden but if i go home ill have foxtel and well im use to being laid up atm becos i can barely walk and it hurts to so when im not at work i cook dinner n then i recline on the couch or i lay in bed and watch movies and tv.

I dont know if it is a old witchdoctor remedy But my cuz has been known to capture bees and allow them to sting her elbows and fingers
only one or two
She told her doc I dont know how impressed she was. But she did say bee stings were a natural cortisone

Cuz reckoned it worked for months Who knows if it works or if it makes her think it helps but she swears by it

TV is great adel but how about reading a book? It's a lost joy perhaps waiting to be rediscovered?

Hi babe........grrrrrrr not something to look forward to but a few positive thoughts.........1) Australia provides good medical care, so you will be in good hands.........2) you are young so the healing abilities of your body are in full swing...........3) prepare yourself for the time in bed and on crutches..........4) get friends to visit you and look after you while you are unable to hobble around..........5) get best rehab and stick to it.

I had a knee cap surgery when I was 21. I was told that I would sit in a wheel chair with 30 if I didn't go for it. Before the surgery I was in so much pain that I literally crawled up the stairs, couldn't sleep during the night and had to give up any sporty activity.......so I do have a slight idea what you are going through.
It will be all good and it can only get better.

thanks rochelle. yeh its driving me insane but i am prepared for it all... and i will be home with mom and friends and family... and ive a series of books im ready to ready a few of em from my sister that im looking forward to reading ive got them here but i dont want to start them now or i wont have anything for when i am bed ridden. and yeah if i dont get it done now im going to be worse off... and quality of life is going to be shit... ive a very supportive partner who is helping me aswell so that means alot aswell.
rehab will be a bitch but i will stick with it cos if i slack off it will do nothing but fuck me up...

yeah i know... just over the agony im in... over the fake smile i have to put on and hiding the pain all i wanna do is stay in bed and lay down... but i cant and it sucks so fingers crossed surgeon gives me a date... not only that but i gotta fly to melb becos the best of the best is there and i have to do a bucket loads of bloods n tests to figure out why my body is being an asshole and becoming worse that it was predicted for this age... which in its own is concerning... but im hoping they can figure out what the F is going on and i can be put on the proper medications and regime to better my body and my life as i become older becos atm in all honesty im over it :(
