Honestly now, why don't states/countries put this sort of thing to the vote? Its the honest to goodness perfect scenario for a referendum and as one of the modern day leaders in egalitarian democracy (since at least the fall of the monarchy back in the late 1700's) this sort of thing would surely be right in line with French values?

Religion the purest form of mens control over women, same as politicians control over women and how they reproduce, abortion, etc etc..... The problem here is one word and one word only "MEN"

This proposed legislation is supposed to be about reducing human trafficking. Having said that the statements by the author -"Socialist lawmaker Maud Olivier, the architect of the bill, has argued repeatedly that prostitutes should be seen as "victims and no longer as delinquents" indicate that this could just be an excuse to impose his morals on everyone else. Assuming all W/Ls have been coerced is crap. Getting rid of human trafficking is a laudable aim but simplistic legislation wont cut the mustard (Dijon of course). Politicians love simple remedies to complex problems - trouble is they rarely work.

There is already some evidence that WL in France are fleeing to Switzerland and Germany where sex work is regulated and legal. Other girls advertise for massages in private homes and then negotiate extra services in the privacy of the room. These laws will not protect anyone, they have been designed by foolish and naive bourgeois "socialists" who have no understanding of the real world and what it takes to run a business.
