If you come across a good GP/specialist make sure you keep him/her close...........there are not many around............

i agree Rochelle my 3 specialists take their time to explain and treat me for my problems ,whereas my GP seems to place herself above everyone else,Regardless of what my specialists inform her of my conditions, and they all say im going well, she dosent hesitate to give me a lecture .
I've even come across 3 GP's in the last 2 years ,at a works medical, who were absolute dogs.even tho i've got letters indicating my conditions are well controlled ,they make it hard for me to continue working ,

the 3 GP's you had meet in the last 2 years ,at a works medical are employed by your work, and they are who the doctors look after and not you .
i had the same problem 2 years ago when i was hurt @ work .

I've had the same GP for 10 years. He's really good...He hunts me down and badgers me to come in for vaccinations, cholesterol tests and to follow up with him after scans etc...Mostly because I probably wouldn't remember or make the time to prioritize if someone didn't make me. And it's not becuase he wants MY cash, he's been bulk billing us for years. But he's fantastic because if you go in there with a concern or a problem he'll do everything he can to organise finding a solution. Scans, referrals, clinics, etc. He doesn't just hand out medication, or give you a bandaid.

My mum is 46 and has been seeing her doctor for well over 15 years now and at 47 yrs old her health issues just seem to be increasing rapidly. I think that there are doctors out there that are not particularly passionate about the treatment of their patients, and I completely agree that the attitude in some areas seems to be very casual.

My hubby is a Hypochondriac...compared to me, he goes to the doctor at the slightest flinch LOL but then he grew up in a medical family... I grew up where doctors were only for if you were dying.

I have a female doctor and she's great. She's the only one I want poking and prodding me, why have some hairy old guy with short stubby fingers like sheet metal workers when I can get long slender fingers for the annual prostate massage or whatever they call it. Plus she also does my regular STI tests and that info I only want to share with her not some strange guy.

Yep! That is the way to go Dallas. As the good people of Mortein say "when you are on a good thing stick to it.

Keeping to one Doctor or group of Doctors means your records are all in one place and you can build a personal relationship.

I have had the same G.P. for around 30 years and I stayed with him mainly because he has the stingiest prescription pad in the business. If something isn't going to kill me he believes in letting the immune system do its job. When I needed surgery for a busted ankle he had me on a table that same day and I didn't even consider questioning his choice of surgeon.

I just hope he doesn't retire on me.

He sounds excellent Svengala, my doc is only about 30 so I'm hoping I'll have her and her practice for ever now!
