Why is make up sex so good?

Why is make up sex so good after a heated argument/fight with a partner/gf?

Does it simply come down to going from one extreme to the other..from hate to love?

I wish... My missus, even when she wins an argument carries quite a grudge for ever having had an opposing view/argument, so I've never had make up sex. Usually it'll be a long time until I get some again.* (and this being in the past, there's been no activity at all for the last half decade)
