I would say both. No take away or massage parlours etc where I live. Part of my reasons for living in the country.

Ideally no business that attracts unsavoury types or drunk people to loiter out the front, but I think Macca's would be worse. Only last weekend a young teenager was killed in a fight out the front of my local one and there's always disturbances and fights most weekends, over the two I'd prefer having a well run brothel, plus they're better for your health :)

Last week, XXX people died on our roads, some of them were road rage incidents, others were hopeless drivers and yet others were drunk.

Let's ban all cars and people with driving licences.

Tobacco kills so many people. Let's ban smoking and the sale of cigarettes.

Websites like this promote talking about sex and publicize massage parlours.

Where does it end? You may not have McDonald's near the school but go to any suburb and you'll the kids will gravitate there even when it's the next suburb.

Everyone keeps talking about that documentary "Supersize me". What many people fail to observe is that it wasn't a SINGLE burger that caused ill-health but TOTAL consumption of burgers for all meals day in and out.

The same would happen with ice-cream, coffee, tobacco, potato chips, carrots etc.

I agree about the massage parlour thing - not healthy or conducive to an early educational environment.

It really boils down to preference, education and some common sense. And don't even get me started on easter eggs, x-boxes, credit cards and casinos!

I think people are missing the point here. The sex industry should be kept away from schools and family homes. I don't see any hotels next to schools and childcare centers. And if someone moved into a house next to a hotel, with children, I would certainly question their sanity.

But what's your beef (pun UNintended) with McDonald's?

Ahoy Tania, there are plenty of homes surrounding pubs and clubs and next door to them, as well as Schools and child care centers next to pubs and I know of elderly care home with high security and high security patients right across the street from a pub and only 2 hours ago I went for a RnT in a home with its boarder fence next door to a school, off course I live in a city(not Perth) and I do understand you may not have ever seen such examples, but, I have been well traveled abroad and across Australia, let as say there is always someone breaking the rules somewhere.

The thing with having R'n'T's next to schools etc is that not all patrons to these premises are nice people with wholesome idea's on sex (there are some loopers out there) . It's wrong to have them near schools. And the same with hotels, to live next to one with children is a definite no no in my book.

With McDonald? I rarely buy takeout and the fact it's not in the kids faces everyday is a huge bonus.

Why is it a huge bonus that it's not in their faces? It's everywhere. If you go back to the start of this thread - it asks which is more harmful or offensive - I don't think McDonald's qualifies for either surely? No? Yes?

Maccas and the other purveyors of so-called "junk food" should not be blamed for the epidemic of flabby kids and their locations should be dictated only by their estimates of consumer demand.

The responsibility for what kids eat and drink belongs fairly and squarely with their parents. Fast food has its uses, particularly where a fast bite you don't have to clean up after is necessary but it should only be an occasional indulgence. No use blaming the fast food industry for parents' lack of nutritional sense.

I think all take away food is offensive, Have you tasted it compared to homemade burgers and food? And the fact it's not in their faces makes a huge difference, out of sight out of mind.

Have to disagree Tania - as I said in my earlier post - I've seen schoolkids travel to the next suburb just to get to McDonald's or Hungry Jack's. Wouldn't make a difference whether it's opposite the school or not or in their faces or not. And you've then got to consider other "unhealthies" like meat pies, sausage rolls in delis, Mr Whippy vans etc.

lol None of them where I live and no buses either, so it's all good. It's a minimum 40 minute drive to anywhere with take-out and they are way to young to drive,,a win win situation :)

...Mr Whippy vans...

Slightly off-topic: if I was a ne'er-do-well and was making money illegally, then one of those ice cream trucks would be a great way to launder money. Have a few trucks, pay a few people to drive around in them and then bank a bunch of cash as the day's takings. I remember driving down Gnangara road and seeing one parked at the side of the road out in the middle of the road. It was always there and I wondered how on earth they made any money.

The vehicle is sitting there burning petrol (they'd need a generator to run the fridges), they have a product that has a short shelf life and it is fairly cheap - nobody is going to pay $10 for an icy pole! You've got rego, insurance, fuel, food, wages, maintenance on the car, maintenance on the fridges, cleaning - I'd imagine they'd make a great front. So long as you're not the one driving and listening to that music all day...

Naughtythoughts, I'm not even sure if you've to do that anymore. I gather that's why tax-dodgers or bribery givers and recipients use casinos so much. They go in, buy a whole lot of chips, give it to the other person and come out claiming they lost all their money to someone else.
