What is it about a song that makes you like it?

Is it the beat or the do the words have special meaning to you. Do you find you like the song simply because you think the singer is hot or do you find yourself being brainwashed into enjoying it just because it is being played over and over again on the radio?

I cannot stand songs that repeat the same lines over and over again… That’s brain washing because even if you haven’t heard it for a while, someone just has to say sometime with a similar line and all of a sudden you can’t get the tune of your head.

I love listening to music that actually means something. The song that really gets me has to relate to my life and what I am experiencing at that moment which can be very healing.

I don’t really know songs by the artist or song titles but every song I love has a memory attached, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

I hope that helps with my Dementia later in my life…LOL

For me it's all about the feel and emotion that comes through the music. The words are much less important than how they are delivered and the emotion that is felt by the singer and conveyed to the listener, the same goes for the others in the band and their instruments. It's like having an audible relationship with the musicians and a great song can embrace you like a great lover.

I think we'd all agree we can love songs for different reasons at different times.
Going through a break up and suddenly a song you've known for an age will take on a different meaning for you.Or your on your holidays and you hear a song that isn't all that good but the night was awesome, every time you hear that song the emotional attachment you had for that one special nyt transfers to the song,so was the song any good??

It all depends on how your feeling at the time you hear a song, esp the first time you hear a song.

+ 1. Sums it up for me.

(on the negative side any song that mentions "party" or "partying" or goes on about getting a party started is dog shit)

My favourite band is RUSH , Geddy Lee sounds like Donald Duck on helium and I haven't a clue as to what he is singing about unless I look at the lyric sheet (Which isn't often). I also like Death and Thrash metal so really they could be singing about anything... For all I care.

Unless there's fireworks in the drum department. I don't get excited about any music.

I like Rammstein and have no idea what they're singing about as I don't speak German :)

This is based on an air show accident that happened at Ramstein Air Force base near Frankfurt, Germany. It describes all the terrible things that happened ("ein Mensch brennt" "ein Kind stirbt") and then follows it with "die Sonne scheint" (the sun shines). We as human beings tend to believe that all bad things happen at night, or most of them anyway, but this air show disaster occurred in the middle of the day. Even though all hell broke loose, the sun still shined.

"99 Luftballons" (German Neunundneunzig Luftballons, "99 air balloons") is a protest song by the German band Nena from their 1983 self-titled album. An English version titled "99 Red Balloons" written by Kevin McAlea was also released after widespread success of the original in Europe and Japan. The English version is not a direct translation of the German and contains a somewhat different set of lyrics.[1] The later-released English translation, "99 Red Balloons", was the version that became popular outside of Germany and neighbouring countries, with it topping the charts in the UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland.American audiences preferred the original German version, which became the highest Billboard charting German song in US history when it peaked at #2 in the US. Only the Austrian Falco reached a higher rank with "Rock Me Amadeus", also sung in German.

In my opinion a good song is a song that makes you feel it when you hear it. Unfortunately a lot of new music just does not achieve this these days.

Good song?........real music........somebody who can actually sing and play an instrument.....understand music and is maybe able to come up with a bit of composing.........those songs will last, all the other ones are one hit wonders.
