Flappers were a "new breed" of young Western women in the 1920s who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and flaunted their disdain for what was then considered acceptable behavior. Flappers were seen as brash for wearing excessive makeup, drinking, treating sex in a casual manner, smoking, driving automobiles, and otherwise flouting social and sexual norms.[1] Flappers had their origins in the liberal period of the Roaring Twenties, the social, political turbulence and increased transatlantic cultural exchange that followed the end of World War I, as well as the export of American jazz culture to Europe.

About twenty years ago just b4 she died one of my mothers older sisters told me she was a Flapper when young . she assured me that I would have liked her .

I recently came across a old photo of my 20 something year old aunty and yes the old duck was very rootabley eighty or so years ago .

That's really a lovely little slice of family history!

I know for sure that my gran was definitely not a Flapper- but would have been totally cool if she had! I would have loved to sit by her and listen to stories of when she was a young lady but Didn't get the opportunity! I love looking over all the old trinkets and photos that my mum has kept. No flapper photos though I'm afraid.

She was kind and warm hearted always glad to see me and always wanted a kiss ( a nice kiss no nasty stuff ) the reason the Flapper stuff came up was because I was teasing her .

Apparently she rolled her BF car out the back of Toodyay so what she did is walk down the road until she found a sheep trough washed all the dust of her face got her girly stuff out and prettied up then waited until someone came along and gave her a lift into Northam to fess up to the now car-less BF

Poor old Dear struggled to remember the term " Flapper " bur she new when in her twenty's she could make a fool out of a dick head like me , and by the way she was much more sexy than the girls in the photo I posted ,
