Has anyone heard of this App virtual boyfriend/Girlfriend? Not sure what one would need it for but nonetheless it exists so people obviously use it. They were marketing it for singles that get hassled about not having a significant other. Also for those situations where you get asked out by someone you have no interest in, you can pretend you are attached and save hurt feelings. Seems a bit strange to have to concoct an elaborate story to avoid telling people the truth, but that's just my opinion. What will they come up with next??
Virtual boyfriend app sends you love notes
A new app lets you fake a relationship by giving you a virtual partner who texts, leaves voicemail messages, and even sends you romantic notes.
The Invisible Boyfriend and Invisible Girlfriend apps allow you to choose your virtual partner's name, age and picture, and the software will help you to come up with a story about how you met.
It is being launched in the US and people are being invited to apply to join its private beta stage.
But the service does not come cheap - a virtual boyfriend will set you back a flat monthly fee of $US24.99 ($AU31.53).
The price includes 100 texts, 10 voicemails, and one handwritten note.
The app's website says: '(It) gives you real-world and social proof that you're in a relationship - even if you're not - so you can get back to living life on your own terms.'
The idea started out as a joke, and co-founder Matthew Homann bought the domain names nine years ago.
Then, in 2009, he and Kyle Tabor entered a local start-up contest and won.
They've spent the intervening time working on a system to make the computer-generated exchanges feel human, which they call their 'secret sauce'.
It is unclear exactly how the app works and how much human control there is over the messages sent to the customer.
