Have spent the last 2 weeks in bed, and not for the fun things like making whoopee or being massaged, or waking up to the country air - no! I have been sweating, shivering, coughing like my lungs were bursting, having horrible headaches, and whole body in pain ........
What the hell is going on?

Anyhow finally actually feeling a little better!
Just wondering whether any one else had this flaming flu that made you lose two weeks of your life you can't get back!!!

And did you see the quack, oops I mean doctor - or did you do like me and self medicated and let the flu go through it's time.... I hope I have built up enough antibodies to fight any flu bugs around now!!!!!!

1 week and I have almost defeated it. Lots of sleep, warm drinks, vitamin C, fresh veggies and working from home rather than the office.

Hey DD hope u r starting to feel better. I started getting a flu shot the last couple of years. I know some people say you shouldn't because it's suppose to be bad for you...... but I hate being sick!! And in this industry where you are up close and personal, it's so easy to catch a cold or flu. If you do opt not to get jabbed then I have heard garlic tablets are really good to include in with your vitamins. Odourless of course!!

My sympathy to you, Original Poster.

I haven't had a cold or "the flu" for 5 years now, and hadn't had one for years before that. I don't get flu shots, or any other vaccines, but my memories of being bed ridden (and not in a good way) are very vivid. Glad to hear that you are feeling better xx

Didi if your car was spultering and coughing would you take it in for a check up, because personally I think you were bloody silly not going to the doctor, the flu has many mutations and can turn into pneumonia.
Your post reminds me of having to go to the poidairist to get my ingrown toenails cut and I always begrugded the money it cost until I saw a sign in his room that said:
How much do you spend servicing your car each year, and what is your most important form of transport.
I have never begrudged the cost since and look after my most important form of transport with two yearly maintenance visits, in return when I hit 75 plus I will still be able to walk briskly, and maybe even run because I sacrificed the high heels at 40.
I ask everyone that reads this to work out what condition your feet will be like at 75, and I hope you realise with out maintenance you are likely to be severely limited in what you can achieve on your own two feet.

I have the flu shot every year.
I went to England one time and experienced two Winters. One in Canberra and one in England.
I took the flu shot then for the first time and was not sick.
The plane over to London was full of coughing people.

No I am not a doctor. *smile*

Some thing to think about.

If you think about how a virus works, it makes sense that we're most contagious when our symptoms are at their worst. Viruses like influenza and those that cause the common cold (there are a couple of hundred of them) have an incubation period once they get into your body. The virus gets into a group of healthy cells and then goes about requisitioning their survival apparatus from the inside. During this incubation period, while the virus is multiplying inside those infected cells, you have no symptoms -- no sore throat, no runny nose, no achy muscles -- and no virus spreading like wildfire throughout your body so that every drop of saliva or mucous you produce contains it. And that's how a virus spreads from one person to another: By a healthy person coming into contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person, whether those fluids are airborne (as from a sneeze) or left on a doorknob by a sick person who just wiped his nose. So if you have no symptoms yet, it's a lot less likely that you're going to spread the virus to another person.
Once the cells that have been taken over by the virus start to die, that's when all hell breaks loose. Here's when you start having symptoms, and you start spreading it to everyone you know if you're not careful. Some of those symptoms are caused by the virus itself (runny nose and sore throat, for example), and others are caused by your immune system (fever and exhaustion, for instance). When the virus breaks out of those dead cells and starts infecting tons of other cells throughout your body, your immune system recognizes that something is wrong and begins its counterattack. All of this can take days to happen. With the flu in particular, the time between exposure and the onset of symptoms is usually between one and four days.
So, when are you most contagious? Most experts agree that adults with a cold or the flu start being contagious about a day before they start experiencing symptoms. For the flu, the contagious period then lasts five to seven days into the illness. For children, the contagious period for the flu can last up to two weeks after they start feeling sick, even if they start feeling better before that. The contagious period for a cold lasts about three to four days into the illness. As a general rule, people with a cold are most contagious about three days after their initial exposure
to the virus.

DD have you heard of 'Nosodes'? They're a homoeopathic alternative to vaccinations and shots (not approved by any medical organisation). The creation of nosodes is a tad repulsive as the bacteria that has made you sick, is used in the preparation... But then again, most vaccinations are the same. They just don't use phlegm and mucus haha... Basically it works on the same concept as a chemical vaccination, but without the chemicals that can sometimes do more harm than good:) Something to look into... xx
Hope you're feeling better xxx

Aaaaaw DD, I'm glad your on the mend, I'm looking forward to seeing you on Monday, you have been missed. I had a really bad flu last year, was totally debilitated for 2 weeks, I knew something was up when I layed on the couch and I actually watch 4 movies in a row (I never watch tv or lay around Booooooring). I spent a few days mulching my yard sweating it out then rested for the rest, I did go to the doctor on day 10 but was told it's the flu and to see it out.

Good to hear that you are getting better and like yourself I tend to simply snuggle into my blanket and try my best to sleep it off.
Some are right and that we should see a doctor but because they can be so busy it takes 2 or 3 days to get a booking and by that time I`m already starting to feel a bit better.

THE SURE FIXER
Trust me. Have this none stop when feeling a cold/flu coming on... you'll be surprised!
Keep stash in the freezer... your friends will need it too :)

1. Make sure your freezer is stocked with 6 chicken frames and large chicken (skin off)
2. You want at least 5 big onions
3. 6 heads of garlic
4. Few carrots and celery
5. Large chicken stock liquid longlife pack sort
6. Two lemons. Peeled without white stuff.

Placed washed chicken and everything else into massive pot.
Bring to boil.
Simmer for at least 3 or 4 hours.
Take out large chicken gently as possible.
Strain Squash right through the strainer. Pick through any chunk of onion or garlic put back into soup.
Add chicken without bones into soup.

You can now add ginger chunks or grate into soup.
Extra garlic. squeeze lemon juice or even worster sauce. tomato sauce... chilli? up to you.
I like mi goreng noodles without satchets etc.

Thanks Mia

Looks like a great recipe - wonder if I can use fish instead of chicken
as I don't do meat as a rule unless it is connected to a man!

DD!!!! Welcome Back Lovey! :)
Fish? hmmmmm I don't know... I guess we could. I guess having that many onion and garlic would suffice... There's an onion recipe for chest infections so I don't see why we can't go fish :)

I always take Ease a Cold as by dosage on packet , it definitely cuts symptoms by half . I dont subscribe to Anti Biotics and powdered vitamin c every hour, you will be over it in no time .
