Women are MORE satisfied in the bedroom than men!

A new survey of 1,000 Australians has highlighted the sexual habits of men and women across the nation.

And while much of the information found in the research was to be expected, there were a number of revelations that were both surprising and concerning for experts around the country.

Here, FEMALE looks at the results of Durex's Great Aussie Sex Survey and speaks to sexologist Juliet Allen about contraception trends, sexual satisfaction and tips for those looking to revamp their sex lives.

THE SEX HABITS OF MEN AND WOMEN

The survey, which took place between the 12th and 19th of February, revealed that Australians are having sex twice a week on average and Saturday is the most common day of the week for people to get intimate.

Holidays and birthdays are the most common occasions for sex, however, and men and women both have an average of 11 sexual partners in their lifetime.

Australian sexologist, Juliet Allen, said this is not often enough.

'In this day and age people aren't having as much sex as they want to, and their quality of sex isn't great either. I feel people should be enjoying sex more than that,' she said.

I guess Juliet Allen is right. We should enjoy quality sex.

This Is How Much Sex We're All Really Having
Just how much time are we spending between the sheets these days? Well, according to new research, the numbers aren't too shabby.

More than half of us are having sex at least twice a week and 90% are sexually satisfied, Durex has revealed after surveying 1000 Aussies on how often their sex lives. But apparently, your satisfaction in this area could be dependent on where you live, with South Australians reportedly having the most sex while sadly for Sydneysiders, New South Wales folk report being the least satisfied with their sex lives.

And, while 52.1% of South Australians are having sex at least once a week, only 42.1% of Victorians say they are doing the same, with Queensland (50.2%) and New South Wales (49.4%) falling somewhere in the middle.
Durex sexologist Juliet Allen tells the Daily Telegraph this could have a lot to do with how stressed we are, pointing to South Australia's more cruisy and rural lifestyle as a surefire way to rev up your libido.

“Perhaps if those from New South Wales were from Sydney, they have more stress which equals lower libido," she says. “In this day and age we’re all so busy because of our access to phones and social media, we can read emails from bed, so it’s leading to less sex for some cities. The study shows we’re having sex but I think we’re having less than we used to, given we’re so hyperstimulated.”
Meanwhile, Queensland - the state with the most single people - has reported the highest sexual enjoyment with a whopping 91.3% saying they are happy with the sex lives. Whereas New South Wales are by far the least satisfied with 89.7% saying they aren't satisfied with their current sex lives.

Relationship coach Sarah Tolmie adds that people who are not happy with their sex lives are likely stressed due to their busy schedules. “Often the lack of sex is like the canary in the mine, the first sign of a relationship needing attention,” Ms Tolmie says.

However, she stressed there was more to a relationship than just sex, adding about the importance of being present with the "emotional, mental and even spiritual aspects of union". But for those who are getting some, it turns out most aren't always practising safe sex with more than half of those surveyed admitting they don't use any form of contraception and, disturbingly many also admitted to never being tested for sexual transmitted diseases. Yikes.

Ms Allen says people often forget to use condoms because they get "caught up in the moment", adding that there needs to be greater awareness about STI checks.
