Has anybody here seen or recieved the kindness of a stranger??

Once when I was touring overseas, I managed to miss my bus and I was left to sit outside in the sweltering heat when a local shop keeper came outside.
In her broken english she asked what had happened and after explaining to her, she quickly insisted on me going into her air conditioned shop, gave me some food to eat along with a cold drink and told me to make sure I stayed there until the next bus was due.
She even rang the coach service to tell them where I was and to make sure I wasn`t forgotten.

She did all that and all she wanted as payment was a simple smile...

There was a time when I sincerely WANTED to believe that what goes around, comes around. Unfortunately the realities of life have taught me that it can be a very long time for kindness come round to you - if at all. But billy, I'm glad it happened for you.

I've received acts of kindness and performed many as well.

Without using up all the corny phrases, what goes around DOES come around...eventually. And as some would put it - "all good things come to those who wait"

Well enough of my philosophying (<- is that a word??) for now.

I have never believed it was so simple as what gors around comes around But if it is the right thing to do just do it
I often think it is the little things we do that make life better Anyway it is you who feels good and if you have helped thats a bonus
But maybe it it is also a outcome of being brought up in a country town rather than a big city

The 'go around come around' is unfortunately not as simple as it sounds. Ok....sometimes it takes awhile (LOL as in 'good things take time') but there are some seriously bad people out there. They wouldn't even be kind to their own and definetely not to strangers.
However....little things make a difference and hopefully we never give up on doing them. It really can make your day.:hello:

I agree with Happy2 and Johnlou. Do a good turn for someone because it's the right thing to do, not because karma may come back and bite you in the arse if you don't. Honesty and Kindness are their own rewards.

The thing that disappoints me with the "go around, come around" phrase is that there are ALOT of bad people out there - from bullying bosses to conmen - and we've all been victims of both at some stage I'm sure.

And the vast majority of them are still going on doing what they do and haven't paid for it - I know one government organisation that has people going in and coming out , it might as well build a revolving door. And people who leave it are always in a crying mess when it isn't their fault - it's the supervisors and organization.

I know a conman who has wrecked people's lives, he has spent a small amount of time in jail and the victims get nothing. Meanwhile he's living it up in Collie.

Good thread.
I try act of kindness all the time as much as helping a total strangers from letting ppl in line at the pub to giving money to the red cross or what ever and who ever or just saying something nice(or even posting something nice) to someone u dont no and the thing is u HAVE to think bout it or u just want happen. With good friends and family they sort of expect it from you,but out of the blue stuff is the best thing...I was only telling a mate re this the other night, and it has been proven over and over again that one of the keys to been HAPPY is to do this act. remember the movie pay it fwd?with Helen hunt and the other young kid who could see dead ppl from another movie, lol,a bit cheesy bad it wasnt a bad idea..

My point precisely. The "come around" side of it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll win lotto, or get to play with Megan Gale:love10: but that some good will come your way, and as with most of us, that is a warm feeling of happiness & satisfaction.
There are plenty of shit-heads out there who "appear" to be happy and successful, but how long does it last, and how happy are they...really! True happiness is self generated, nobody can take it from you, and it can last forever.

Last year, I raised (with a group of 10 of us) around $25k, plus dipped into my own pocket for airfares, accommodation, food etc and went to Mongolia in a humanitarian mission trip. We met the locals. We bought food from and ate with the locals. We socialised with the locals. We taught them English. We ran school holiday activities for the kids. We worked 20 hour days for 3 weeks, and were exhausted at the end, but WOW, what an awesome experience. We taught the Mongolian's alot, but they taught us a hell of a lot more!
Going back again in October if any of you would like to contribute the the fundraising efforts;D

In the words of the Smiths song "Its take guts to be gentle and kind" - very true.

Its no effort to smile at people and be nice but so many in today's society somehow find this very hard to do. Why I don't know.

Bring on acts of kindness!

I get what you mean.
That is BIG LOVE to expect nothing in return not even a smile.
SMALL LOVE expects something in return.....a kind word....acknowledgement of some kind.
Its amazing how people get this confused.

Yes, I have recieved kindness from strangers many times. As a 7 year old, I was at the counter of a Kentucky Fried Chicken. I was twenty cents short and the clerk was not gonna let it go. A nice gentleman handed over the twenty cents with a smile.

Another one that stands out is when I was 23. I was going up a hill and ran out of petrol. I had no money on me and was not knowing what to do. A lady drove by and asked why I was distressed. I told her why and she lent me $20 dollars and gave me a phone number to pay it back if I wish.

There has been many, but the really nice occasions is when I have the priviledge is giving it out. The one I remember most is in Auckland New Zealand.......

I was standing by a rubbish bin smoking a ciggarette. I finished and put my butt on the ground and stomped it out. An elderly lady apprached me who was obviously carrying a lot of static anger. She ripped into me with the most glorious of profanities. I smiled, picked up my butt and put it in the bin. She looked at me dumbfounded and said. ''I'm usually told to fuck off round about now.'' And I said, ''Well today you get a smile, and I apologise for what I did was wrong''.

The look on her face was visually one of a circuit being fried. She did not know how to take that and needed to walk away and digest that. But I am sure that in one way or another her life was changed.
