FWIW, here's my take on Thailand. I love the place, it's easily my favourite holiday location, so diverse in culture and things to do. There is something for everyone, and where you go depends on what kind of holiday you wish to have. The people are wonderful and the key ingredient to having a great holiday is smile. A smile is your passport, if you want to be aggressive and act like an idiot, then Thailand's not for you.
Sex is ubiquitous all over Thailand, some places far more concentrated than others. Yes, they have escort agencies, but I much prefer going out to bars and meeting people. So long as you learn a form of "Thai-English", you'll be fine. I won't bore with what Thai-English is, if you want to know then ask. As I said in an earlier post, you don't need to be on the prowl for sex, it's there when you want it. Golden rule is, learn the rules before you go, otherwise you could get yourself into all sorts of trouble.
If you are a young stud looking to get laid as often as possible, then Pattaya is for you. You cannot walk don't the street without being approached by eager young women. I made the mistake of walking through Soi 6 and they formed a ring around me not letting me pass. You see a girl in a bar you may like, you invite her to join you, buy what is called a lady-drink for her, then see if you'd like to spend the evening with her. You pay a bar fine, around $10 or so, and then the rest is between you and the lady. The girls focus on men who do not have girls already with them.
Patong Beach in Phuket is also very much a haven for young men, although it can tend to be a little pricier than most places in Thailand. In Bangkok itself, there are red light areas you can visit. One is called Nana (Soi 4), I've never spent any time there so I don't know much about it, another is called Soi Cowboy (Soi 23), so-called because an American named TG "Cowboy" Edwards started opening up bars in the soi back in the 1970s and he always wore cowboy hats. It's an interesting place to visit as a tourist attraction, you just wander up and down the soi being propositioned by girls outside the bars.
I never intended to stay, but as I got to the end of the soi, I heard some great music emanating from a place on the corner of soi 21. It was called "The Corner Bar" and had live music, with a local band playing covers of all the classics. They were excellent so I spent the evening there. As with every other bar, there were bar girls. I saw one I liked, invited her to join me, and the rest is history. It's as easy as that.
There are other tourist places such as Chiang Mai up north, where you can do river rafting, elephant tracking, you name it, and at night you can relax in a bar, the girls will still be there. It's just not as concentrated as other areas. My personal favourite is Koh Samui, if you are looking for a relaxing beach resort style holiday, there are night spots, and quieter spots, but if you feel like some female company for the evening, you really cannot miss.
There is another area called Patpong which was THE place back in the 70s and 80s apparently, but it's gone a little quite and has a night market running though the middle. It's still operating though.
Many of the bar girls come from northern areas, farms, etc, and are looking to make some money for their impoverished families, so they deserve your respect, not to be treated like something you paid for and can do what you like with. If you need something in particular, ask the girl if she will provide it first.
There is so much more I could say but I'll cut it here. One word of warning is the Thais are warm friendly people and if you join in, they'll love you. If you want to go there, get drunk and carry on like idiots on end of season footy trips, you could find yourself in real trouble. If you get aggressive and want to fight some Thai guy who bothers you, then you take on the entire group. I saw one drunken Pom decide to pick a fight with a Thai man, and he ended up getting the shit beaten out of him by a dozen of them. You simply cannot carry on like a drunken slob like you can in Australia.
And if you like your drugs, think again. If you get caught over there, you're headed for a lengthy time in prison, and Australian law cannot help you. Also, their prisons aren't 5-star resorts like ours, they really know how to punish people in Thailand.
One other thing, it's very easy to fall in love with Thai girls because they are gorgeous and treat you like a king. There are many cases of western men who sell up everything, move to Thailand, marry a Thai girl and their life savings are absorbed by the family. Once the money runs out, you are no use to them, and many a western man had been found at the bottom of a cliff.
Also, if you meet a Thai girl in a bar and she wants you to send her money to keep her out of the bars, don't do it. The moment you are on the plane, they're back in the bars sleeping with whoever she can find. Sounds sexist, but believe it or not guys, as lovely as the Thai girls are, they lie.
That's Thailand folks, beautiful country, but it can be a brutal place as well. Before you go, know the do's and don'ts and stay out of trouble, you'll have the time of your life. I'd like to go back again, but I'm not sure when and if it will be a safe place to travel post Covid-19. Only time will tell.
