I'm sick of turning on the news and hearing about polls and leadership speculation. I wish the media would stop giving Tony Abbott a free pass and make him accountable for what he says. As the election gets closer, the public needs to know what the coalition policies are, instead of coming up with one line slogans with no depth or substance.

I'm worried about if Tony Abbot gets in. After watching this video, you should be too.

I don't like either major party. If I can't vote for the sex party I'll hold one of my own :)

Unless you are really one eyed Conservative or Labor This would have to be one of the worst parliaments in lord knows how long
Our State Govt and Opposition are not travelling over well either

Journalism, News and Current Affairs can be very predictable. Whatever the one party says, no matter how good or well received the policy may be by the public, as sure as the sun will shine, the other party will take an opposite view and criticize.

And then if the other party gets voted into government, they'll blame the previous party for all the mishaps and say they in turn now have to introduce unpopular policies to rectify the previous bastards' fault. After that they'll introduce other unpopular policies which the opposition will criticize and then the government of the day who were once in opposition will say, "politics isn't about being popular - it's about leading and making far reaching policies that will save Australia and be unpopular in the short term".

And so it goes.

It also depends on how the media want us to vote I remember when Maxine McKew was running against John Howard
She tripped and nearly fell I remember her speaking after the election She asked why her tumble was not on TV but Howards trip was shown at every opportunity He was portrayed as old and unsteady Without a word being said But Mckew did say the person she spoke to said your new fresh We like new subjects people Or along those lines anyway

I remember Tony Abbot saying "Don't be;ieve anything I say unless it is written down". Since then I have stopped reading any Political comments.

All he can ever say on TV is how bad the Government is and that he will fix it, but nobody is being told how.

Maxine never skirted an issue. And she was open about everything. 071217-McKew2-b6485930-a310-4159-a513-e85f0c655fbe.jpg

John Howard on the other hand kept his eye on peope. It paid to keep abreast of things by any means! 2108542015_419a6f1eac_o.jpg
Unfortunately his mind said go but his body said no!

Tony Abbott is regarded as the best thing since sliced bread. He will fix and rewind back most reforms made over the last 6 years and it will be like a 5th term of the Howard government. The popularity of Abbott is on the rise and most Australians can not stand Gillard, the unelected PM of Australia. The election is a poll on the personalities of the two leaders. Nice guy and family man Tony Abbott all good versus Julia Gillard the unmarried, red haired childless spinster who stole the role of PM from Kevin Rudd.

Two things Stovo - how old are you? And secondly, it'll be interesting indeed if all you've written is true. The best thing since sliced bread hey? Wow! I'd vote for him just for that!:puke:

Labor has the better NBN plan and we don't vote for the PM, we vote for the party and the party decides who the leader is

Zombie - you've got it wrong mate. Stovo's on the money - anyone who's the best thing since sliced bread is going to win. He's a man with personality.

Yes he is a man with personality and the same could have been said of Mussolini, Hitler or on the flip side Churchill, Kennedy
Personality means squat if he and or Rudd etc have no policies

I am baffled by most peoples take on the Government. I'm no Gillard fan but it seems to me no matter what she does, people don't care... they want her gone. Even when the Government has tried to implement something everyone agrees on... the slide in the polls continued.

Some people don't like her face. Don't like her hair, her clothes, her marriage status and/or the fact that she doesn't have kids. All of which have nothing to do with ya know.. running the country. But OK, I get it... that's how some people vote. Some people are fucking stupid.

A bloke in work was complaining about her and I asked him - what exactly is your problem with her? He said Labor has fucked the economy. How? I asked. He couldn't explain. I asked him if anyone he knew was jobless or really struggling at the moment. He didn't know anyone. Everyone he knows, as far as he's aware, is doing just fine. Yet "the economy is fucked".

I think Tony Abbot has to get a lot of credit for the way he's lead in discrediting the Gillard Government. Hey, he seems kind of stupid at times but it's working! He's going to walk this election.
I look forward to him "stopping the boats" and keeping interest rates down. No wait, that was Howard. He was the interest rate voodoo magician.

...it's bad enough dealing with some real stupid comments on Twitter but here too? Nope, f**k it, I've had enough! If you want someone who as no policies, no leadership, no ideas and is simply being groomed by 2 people who control 75% of Australia's media, then by all means vote for The Imbecile and his stooges...The Clown, The Scum, The Girlyboy, The Nazi, The Moron, The Turncoat and The Weed!

I generally don't care who is in power, this is the first time ever that I do just because I want the Labor planned NBN (the Liberal plan for the NBN is bollocks).
So either Labor will get in and I'll get my nice NBN in a few years and then not care who is in power afterwards, or the Liberals will get in and I'll go back to not caring sooner :p

Maaaaate! Nooooooooooooo! How could you even think that?

I take it back! I don't know what came over me. In fairness I had just left the immigration thread.

--

Neither Abbot or Gillard are really up to the job. That seems to be the consensus. My advice is - Don't vote; If you don't think either or any party for that matter is deserving of your vote... do not vote. Send a message. What about the fine? Pay it. It's $20. You'll recover.
Before someone points out that plenty of people around the world have died [fighting] for the right to vote, I just want to point out that nobody has died for the 'right' to be fined for not voting. My right to choose not to vote is just as important.

I agree with you Fudd, which is why I created this thread. People don't care about policies, as these are what will shape the direction of the country's future. So far the coalition have released minimal policies and getting away with it. The few they have such as fraudband, direct action, and 'turn back the boats' are total duds. They have no vision at all.

Funny descriptions you have. Can you match the pollies to the descriptions? lol
You only have to take a look at what the front bench of the coalition would look like and shudder:
1. Tony Abbott -
2. Julie Bishop -
3. Christopher Pyne -
4. Barnaby Joyce
5. Scott Morrison
6. Joe Hockey
