spying on people

T

Tania Admin

I am amazed that the media and others are going on about this. I mean seriously of course our government spies on other countries, it's part of how they keep us safe.

Maybe its a necessary exercise to keep the masses safe. Or maybe its the huge number of admin that wear a title that has to find something to do to justify their salaries in order to keep up their mortgages and the car and boat payments.

Ahoy, I do agree
Pine Gap is the commonly used name for a satellite tracking station approximately 18 kilometres south-west of the town of Alice Springs in the centre of Australia which is operated by both Australia and the United States. Since 1988 it has been officially called the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap;

There is nothing wrong with spying on other nations The only crime is to be caught spying on another nation
But for me if spying happened to stop one more Bali type bombing happening its money well spent
And I am sure our neighbours have an inkling of what has been going on in places such as Pine gap and the Geraldton spy base

The Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS) is the Link is broken so has been taken down responsible for collecting foreign intelligence, undertaking counter-intelligence activities and cooperation with other intelligence agencies overseas. ASIS is equivalent to the United Kingdom's Link is broken so has been taken down) or the United States' Link is broken so has been taken down.
According to its website, the mission of ASIS is to:
Protect and promote Australia's vital interests through the provision of unique foreign intelligence services as directed by Government

shhhh...say no more. Your words are being recorded and will be used against you. This internet thing is being tapped by agencies locally, and overseas.

US spies on its citizens, so i think Aus is doing the same. So are other cuntries. The cold war is being played discreetly these days. You hardly hear about it until, some idiot cum blabbing about it.

Yeah not knowing is a bliss for sure. But knowing about not knowing that you think they might know intimate details is just troubling to the mind. It's like a pond of disturbed turd. It's just not the same after someone put a stick thru it and give it a little stir.

Agreed Tania. Spying is a necessary tool avaiable to all governments. Its been going on since one village got built near another year 10000 years ago. To act surprised & shocked about it is a bit naive.

The idea is not to get caught / let it be know. So when that does happen... it kind of is a big deal. I'm not surprised the media is covering it. Doesn't mean they or anybody is really 'surprised'. They got caught, that's the story.
If this happened and it got zero coverage... I'd be alarmed.
If you think it's a-ok to spy on officials and citizens in other countries, then it must be a-ok for governments, international and local, to spy on you... if they feel like it.

Amen Mike.

Not many people know this but when Moses brought the tablets bearing the ten commandments down the mountain there were actually eleven commandments drawn by the fiery finger of God.

When Moses broke the originals and "carved new tablets with his own hands" he broke his chisel after No.10 and decided to leave it off.

So what was the missing commandment?

"Thou shalt not get caught doing any of the above"

That is the one which has caused the most trouble.

Thou shalt not cavort thy neighbour$ arse.

Is my favourite of the ten commandments.

Pine Gap was the root of a big spying snafu between the USA and Australia back in the 70s. The CIA was spying on Australia, and it learned that the Australian government planned to close Pine Gap. So, the US backed a sucessful plot to have the Australian Prime Minister deposed. At least that's how the story goes. There's a great, if dated, book and movie about it called "The Falcon and the Snowman."
