Spotted Dick

Alas no not the english pudding, but a penis with spots.

I have what are called Fordyce's spots (technically ectopic sebaceous glands) around the penis and scrotum. They are a common thing that a good percentage of males and females have, but generally only a few small ones (<1-1mm)that may not even get noticed. They're totally benign and harmless, arent an obstruction, non-contagious, and occur naturally where a sebacious gland doesnt form properly at the base of a hair follicle. They're basically like freckles except physical instead of colouring, harmless. I do have a lot though, and they are visually and texturally visible (<1-3mm).

They may be harmless physically, but psychologically they're a real problem. I'm a 32yo male, and still a virgin because of them. I cant have a one-nighter, as any girl who sees them will basically accuse me of having an STD, and run for the hills, since they're never going to take my word for it that they're harmless. Same goes for paying for sex.

When it comes to relationships, obviously i want to really trust a girl and have genuine feelings before risking telling them. The couple i have told, have basically ended it with me.

Has anyone else had any experience with this? Particularly interested in female points of view since thats what worries me the most.

Thanks

Bummer!!

The only solution I can think of is to have a Doctor write a certificate explaning the nature of the condition to reassure any potential partners that they are not at risk. If you are starting a relationship it may also be an idea to make the problem known fairly early in the piece rather than wait until clothes start coming off.

Even given that, I am afraid that some women will still find it a turn-off but if she likes you enough she will get over it.

Yes mate it would be very hard to deal with. As Sven Says see a doc and get some sort of medical form to explain what they are and they are harmless and not contagious. GOOD LUCK..

Hello rajman, i just googled about this and this is the first thing i found about it at Wikipedia, maybe there is a treatment or something you can do to make them disappear, good luck...

*************************
Treatment

Although no treatment is required, those with the condition can choose to apply Tretinoin gel or cream to the affected areas each day. This can reverse the effects of the condition over time and prevent it from getting any worse. To get the best results from Tretinoin one should use it along with alpha hydroxy acid agents which are normally used to treat acne. Tocopherol and Argania extract have also been linked to the successful treatment of Fordyce's spots.

Vaporising laser treatments such as CO2 laser[8] or electro desiccation have been used with some success in diminishing the appearance of this condition if they are of cosmetic concern. However, most doctors consider this a normal physiological phenomenon and advise against treatment.

Sometimes a doctor will prescribe TCA chemical peels, although as soon as treatment is stopped Fordyce’s Condition will return[citation needed]. The condition can also be removed with laser vaporization[citation needed]. Diathermy or liquid nitrogen freezing can also sometimes be used to remove the condition[citation needed].

Success varies per patient, but some have found relief through Pulse Dye Lasers, [9] a laser normally used to treat sebaceous gland hyperplasia, [10] which is similar to Fordyce spots. Treatment through Pulse Dye Lasers is usually expensive and doesn't scar. [11]

Yeah have looked into those methods. The laser treatment is fine for a few, and can leave scarring, in most cases worse than what was there before.

And the creams/acids etc arent much better.

Hi there,

As a worker in the industry I have seen many of these issues. I am not real good with personal realationships so I will stay away from that, but i can offer advice from the other side.
First off I will say that if presented with a certificate from a Dr, that I, and most of my collegues would have no problem seeing you at all.
As a worker we do a health check before every service begins.
Some people are straight out of the bag with things like you are dealing with and we take their words into consideration. If there is no open skin or fliud you should be ok. Safe sex is the non transfer of bodily fluids, so due to safety and hygine, even a really bad ingrown hair in that area will get you a refund. So please dont be too put off. Better to regret what we have done, than have not...!!!

And I am yet to see anyone that is even close to perfect.... LOL
The one's who think they are,
are the furthest away !!!

CT....

Thanks for the comments CT.
Last time i got a doctors certificate for a few days off work coz of the flu, it was basically just a printed sheet, no actual letterhead or anything. Though it did have all the doctors details etc, there was nothing that made it look particularly official. I'd have imagined you'd need something rather more than that.
Of course having such self esteem issues because of it, i do tend to consider it perhaps a bigger thing than it is.

Having had no luck being able to have sex in a relationship, i dunno if i could handle not getting any in a brothel! lol, the old saying "couldnt get a root in a brothel" seems a bit too close to home!

It reminds of the two guys who had red balls. One guy had a STD but the other it was only lipstick.

On a more serious note. It is good that our sex workers ensure their clients and they are free of any nasties.

It is a known fact one is more likely to pick up a STD from a friend than a sex worker.

I find it interesting, a virgin enjoying this site. I often find after reading or seeing the sexy pics on this site, it has the effect that I want sex. God thing I am a happy married man.

Well, its a site to discuss sex and associated things, and this is a sexual health section. My question was directly appropriate to that. You'd rather i ask the same question on an automotive forum perhaps?

rajman, I was just making a comment. I believe it is a good idea to come here to learn.

I believe no matter who you are there is always something to learn here. Even if it is other people's views on different subjects.

This site is for all no matter who or what you are.

Yeah no worries, i didn't take offence or anything.
What can i say, i've got lots to learn ;)

As for the site making me want sex... i'm a 32yo virgin, as far as wanting sex goes, its kinda hard for me to want it more! lol :D

rajman - I think a lot of it is psychological on your behalf (understandably). Picking up a drunk chick at a pub and then turning off the light before doing it is a good work around. Anyway, we feel for you and hope you come to some solution.

Thanks Leica, the thought had crossed my mind, but thats not really my style. I want a mental connection there first.

PS: i'm a Canon guy myself, but would love some Leica :p

well hopefully you will find a chick that undestands.
I am also a canon guy myself :) , and can only use Leica stuff when borrowing friends equipment.
