Sorry I haven't been on to answer your messages over the last few days.

A friend of mines daughter went away for 5 days and her mum and I did a huge clean up. She had been through a bit of a rough time lately and everything was getting on top of her, so with the trailer and 90 combined hours we cleaned, scrubbed, tidied and cleaned up outside as well, all out of good will.

Yesterday I rested, I was buggered.

But I'm back around now and I will reply to everyone soon :)

I have been known to blitz friends gardens on occasions, and I used to do an elderly ladies garden all the time after her husband passed away. Not for payment but because I like the way I feel when I do something nice for someone.

But sorry Homer your own your own with your weeds :)

The sad thing is my friends daughter did not appreciate the effort her mum and I went to, not even a thank you..But that's ok, I know her kids are living in a clean house now and that is reward enough...What a sad world we live in :(

it's rude.. you just upset their environment with your standards. no one needs to apologize for their home. even if it's squalor, there's a reason it got that way. don't add your disapproval to their burdens.

Their burdens? Disapproval? Upset their environment? Sorry but you don't know the situation...Her mother and I removed 3 tonne of just rubbish.

It was a gift for her birthday, to make her feel better, no ill intent was meant by her mother or myself.

It can be a very humbling experience to have someone spit/polish your domain... As a wife and mother everything we are conditioned to believe is that anything less than perfect is failure. Maybe she couldn't say thank you because she was embarrassed to have to at all.

Depends on how well you know the person. If you are 100% certain they would appreciate it, fine. Otherwise, don't ever assume it's ok anywhere else. People, myself included, can be really particular about their personal things. It can be taken as a serious insult, and can wind up making you look like a meddling control freak.
And certainly don't make her look anymore guilty than she probably already feels

I would never make her feel guilty, and as I said it was a gift, she has come around today and been exceptionally nice, I believe she is grateful and was perhaps a little overwhelmed. I have known her and her mother for 15 years.
And the circumstances did not make her mother and I look like meddling control freaks,,,wow,,that was harsh and uncalled for.
I'm still glad we did it and would do it again to help someone else in an instant. I have done this many times for people in the past and always have been rewarded by gratitude :)
