Skin care - one for the ladies

Girls, this is a serious post :)

Almost all the ladies I've seen have almost flawless skin, I mean 95% or more have, in the flesh, almost perfect skin ... how is this possible? What do you girls do to maintain skin perfection?

I try as hard as the next bloke, or maybe harder, exercise, eat decently, get some sun, etc, but with a few ingrowns here and there and the odd bump and scratch you get along the way my skin is _far_ from flawless.

Whats the trick? Constant exfoliation 3 times a day? Liberal bathing in skin creme? Bathing in milk perhaps hehe

Some ladies have a regieme.

Personally its:

Wash with a face wash
Use a toner to remove the remaining impurities
a pore minimising gel
and then an oil free moisturiser specifically for combination skin ^.^

Day and night, my skin isn't the greatest but the routine keeps it under control.

Also up your intake of water and get a good night sleep that always helps

Wow ! What a nice comment .Is that how we are perceived ? I don't ahve much of a beauty routine , just do eat healthy organic food and a basic moisturiser . No make up whatsoever , I try to keep as natural as possible ..

I'm not sure if I was completely clear in my initial post. Whilst I was including facial tone perfection, I wasn't restricting my comment only to skin on the face. I mean skin _everywhere_ :)

I mean, my god, the day I don't have a single bump hidden behind my Klein line (underwear for those wondering hehe) will be the same day I've obviously forgotten to wake up and am still dreaming.

.......or grand mothers..........totally agree with Raye. Some people just have it and some just don't and every product in the world won't help.
A bit can be covered with make up but if you see the same person without you can see the difference.
Grrrrrrrrrrr and there is something called sun damage......especially when growing up in the 70ies and 80ies..........sunscreen was a unknown of and we all got sunburned faces. Been there done that.........sigh........and then you have to deal with the consequences 30 years later. ;)

My main one is suncream, lots and lots and lots of suncream. I haven't been burnt in almost 5 years now (this takes a bit of effort, something I'm kinda proud of..!). Avoiding skin cancer, avoiding wrinkles, sun spots.

Also, use sensitive products on your skin. Try to avoid products with harsh/synthetic ingredients. If you want skin as smooth as a baby's bum, treat it gently like a baby's bum. Make sure products you use are PH balanced, it's worth reading labels of skin care product packets before you fork out. Read a few online articles about the science of skincare (not ones funded by big magazines or by skin care companies) to smart yourself up so you know what to look for in a product.

Also, remember that $ does not always translate into quality. Do your research. My favourite 3 skin care items are avocado, watered down lemon juice, and lucas paw paw. I go through shite loads of that stuff.

I usually wash my face with watered down lemon juice after I've removed my makeup with simple wipes (product plug!). Then witch hazel in an atomizer as a toner, then I use avocado (mushed up) as a facemask. The proteins in it are awesome and the oils in it are really moisturising. Important to not strip your skin of too much oil as then it will just over compensate. Don't forget the neck, ears, shoulders and decolletage when cleansing... These are on display alot. Also your ankles/feet and hands. Manis/Pedis are not just about nails, they also are about skin care.

Personally I also avoid fake tan as I'm not a successful tanner - some girls are (lucky them) but I look like shite in it. Find out what works for you, and stick with it. Play your own game.

I avoid makeup as much as possible. I never wear it when I'm not at work. Unfortunately at work, I have to wear it. If you are wearing makeup, quality and natural is key. Mineral Make ups are great. I still haven't found the right makeup for me though so I can't say too much about it. Zane, not sure if makeup is your thing? ;) hehe

Also, a lesson I am learning (for the millionth time because I'm a slow learner with a very sweet tooth!): Diet is key. I've been eating lots of sweets and unhealthy snacks and soft drinks lately and my skin is hating me for it... So back to hydrating (lots of water!) and eating healthy and then hopefully my skin will stop behaving like a 3yo.

Think I've said more than enough for now...

Cheerio

Due to the nature of some ladies tanning habits, I'd probably say exfoliation is also another key factor to all over silky smooth.

A good loofah and a soap that isn't dehydrating and a nice oil free moisturizer is also a good idea, warm shower use your loofah to exfoliate, hop out and towel down then moisturize while you're still warm, your skin will absorb the moisturizer.

I tend to have really hot showers, and then moisturize after from face to feet ^.^

But Raye is right, genetics can also play a HUGE part of what your skin is like, diet and environment are contributing factors but not main factors :)

You're an amazing woman Sandi but if there's one aspect of your beauty that really stands out it's how incredibly soft and healthy your skin is. I think your natural routine has a lot to do with it and your hard work has definitely paid off! :)

You are right, Dallas, she looks absolutely amazing. It certainly pays when you look after yourself and it is never too late to do so. The healing abilities of your body are pretty amazing and not to be underestimated.......even when you are mature. ;)
