Should Kiwi's be allowed to live and work in Australia under existing arrangements?

Historically there has been a special relationship between Australia and New Zealand dating back to the days of the British Empire. It appears to me however in my limited knowledge that the Kiwi's get the better of the existing arrangements. They are allowed to live and work here and their politicians always seem to want more concessions from Australia.

Given that Australia is heading towards being a republic is it time to break this historical relationship and make the kiwis apply for a visa under the same conditions as the rest of the world?

Some of my favourite hookers have been Kiwi's. Perhaps if they are interested in sex work they can stay.

Kiwis are as much a part of Australia as the BBQ. We may slag them off and take the puss out of their ridiculous use of u's instead of i's but we're all on the same team. Plus we need more maori men in australia. Now. Right now.

It would be interesting to know the percentage of Kiwis working in our mines. I know I cant get a job in the mines. And yes I have tried. It who you know not what you know. Last year I got a HR license and a national forklift ticket etc etc. But to no avail. While I was doing the forlift ticket there was a young Maori guy there getting his ticket as well. He was all decked out in steel capped boots and high visibility work wear. He had a job on the mines ( storemans assistant) yet he had the job and didnt even have the fork ticket when he got the job. Of course Uncle so and so got him in. Whilst over east I met others who worked in west Australian mines, flying back an forth from Sydney!! should we be looking to employ Australians before we look to overseas workers??? makes no sense to me!!!

Lastly, a mate of mine was refused entry to NZ a year ago, for a misdemeanor 9 years ago, he was refused entry untill 10 years had passed from the incident due to his "record" now, you tell me all these maori guys, covered in tatts etc, are all squeaky clean??? no way!!! seems its a one way ride from NZ to Australia, does NZ have mines? I am not sure,

Col, thats a personal opinion, how about an opinion based on what I stated, do you think that outsiders should dominate via nepotism, the employment in our lucrative mines?

I think it should stay the way it is. Australia needs population to grow.

Never done a Kiwi lady.

Well an employer is always going to choose family over Joe Blow. Like you say "it's not what you know it's who you know".

My opinion is they should employ an Australian citizen first.

Are your workers also cheaper than Aussies?

No, they get paid the same and a fewof them get well over industry avarage but just dont ask for more money all the time and appriciate the that they have a job.

They also have respect and call me Sir.

I just dug up an old story on "Perth Now"

Famous Kalgoorlie brothel selling for $5m
JOE SPAGNOLO APRIL 11, 2008 10:00PM

I didnt realise Langtrees used to make 100k a week, also seems Maryanne isnt keen on foreign workers either, unless she is getting a slice of the pie. read below. 100k a week is 5.2 million dollars a year, even if takings are down 40% thats still 3.12 million a year.......
ONE of Kalgoorlie's biggest attractions - Mary-Anne Kenworthy's famous brothel with themed rooms, a museum and a 70-seat restaurant - is going on the market $5million.

Ms Kenworthy said it was time to cut all ties with Langtrees 181 and would put the property on the market in six weeks.

She had planned to leave the bordello to the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Council when she died, but decided it was time to start a new chapter in her life and sell the brothel she has owned for 20 years.

The brothel business wasn't what it used to be, she said.

The 52-year-old said WA's economic boom was oddly having an adverse effect on business. People were too busy making money to have sex.

She said prostitution in Perth was being taken over by Asians, who were under-cutting her prices.

"Over the last five years bookings for Langtrees in Perth have been down 40 per cent _ that works out to about $40,000 a week,'' Ms Kenworthy said.

"Kalgoorlie is down even more because it's now a family town instead of a singles town, but you still make a tidy income.

"During boom times everyone is so busy making money that they don't have time for sex.

"Whereas they used to go to a brothel once a week or once a fortnight, they now go once a month.

"I have been through three or four recessions in my 25 years in the industry and I have done well during every one of them.

"Maybe it's because during a recession people have nothing to do except twiddle their thumbs and have sex.''

But it's the influx of Asian prostitutes which was causing brothels like Langtrees the greatest financial pain, she said.

"There used to be 20 per cent private operators in WA and 80 per cent of the girls worked in the houses,'' Ms Kenworthy said.

"Now, 40 per cent work as private operators and about 60 per cent work in houses. They are coming from Korea, Thailand and China.

"You have got the Asian invasion where private operators are undercutting established houses by 50 per cent.

"They charge $100 to $150 for what the average Australian girl charges up to $300.''

Ms Kenworthy said the Kalgoorlie brothel, which she leases to another madam, had helped the city prosper.

"It's been a very important part of the Kalgoorlie culture,'' she said.

"I'm very proud of what we have been able to achieve in Kalgoorlie.

"It's hard selling a part of your history.

"But I am worried that while I still own it, I will be pulled back into the business.

"I want to be free -- footloose and fancy free.

"I am single and I am looking for a man.

"Applicants can apply in triplicate.''

Ms Kenworthy said she expected the Kalgoorlie brothel would attract a fair bit of interest when it went on the market.

"It's not a gold mine. It's a good steady business,'' she said.

"It's a fun business to run.

"Put it this way -- If you are bored and buy it, you will never be bored again.''

I used to be self employed until I was 29. Once I got my first "Real" job it was an eye opening experience... Now I prefer to do nothing.

Nz has three main islands North Island . South Island and the big West Island were most of the money comes from.

Its all good Col, its been a long time coming.

Now the fun starts, just hope I dont bump into you coming out of some girls room.

C

I doubt if you'll bump into me. I'm not a fan of the girls of the Asian persuasion... Yet.

Doesn't matter what race you sure can't beat a good w/l.

Nope. But at least our government stitched up the loop hole where they used to come over and go straight on the dole. I work with a lot of kiwis. For the most part I'm less than impressed with the "bro's" work ethics
