Johnlou is right - this is a long way from being a black and white situation.

Besides the "should he or shouldn't he" argument we should also consider just how far the law and society has a right to go in regulating personal behaviour. If a woman loves this man, knowing of and understanding his past transgressions and she wants to have his children does the almighty State have the right to say "No, you cannot??"

It is the nature of rulers since Og the Caveman clubbed his way to the top of his society to always seek more power and more control and we should always carefully consider the wisdom and necessity of giving them more.

The problem with Paedophiles is that they hit a nerve in all of us, especially those who have or have had children. The pollies know this and it would be a great lever to get a bit more control which will probably be extended further into our lives later. This is called "the thin end of the wedge" or "the slippery slope" and it is something we should all be very wary of.

I would be staggered if a convicted pedophile passed the checks done for adoption. Surrogacy I guess is the same as making your own so just like anyone else a pedophile can find someone to have a baby with, who can stop it.
We all know that some pedophiles get the chemical castration as punishment, maybe if they all got that it would solve the issue for good.......then again if it was my daughter that was violated my birth control solution for the bloke would involve a post, a rope and a rifle, and a nice counter meal and brew for after.....

Really why is it so hard to answer......
ok here we go . by our law the convicted person who has completed his sentence which has been ordered by a court of law and represent's us the people, is deemed a free man and paid his or her's dues to society. " a free person "

I see no benefit or value whatsoever in allowing pedos to procreate, sterilize them,
Protecting a child far outweighs a perceived right of an adult.
i agree but where do you draw the line .

do you all agree with China with there 2 child laws ??

tough tough question/concept.
Crimes involving the vuneralbility of children..... you pay your time for your crime but there is a real debate about life after.....what about Murders? Rapists? Is the government to decide who can/cannot have children??
VERY tough Concept

I am with johnlou...........it is not black and white and it is not an easy question to answer.
On a personal level I would say NO NO NO.........as it has been shown so many times -and as DD pointed out- there is no cure and control is not enough to stop them from getting into it all over again.
On a legal level society can not deny a human right to a free man.
Again.......if society starts drawing lines on who is allowed to have children and who is not it will open a can of worms and who knows who would be next on the list.

Definitely not. No child should be exposed to this, and I believe allowing it would be using the child as a guinea pig in hope nothing will happen. Its wrong on all levels. Children are beautiful, innocent angels that cannot yet defend themselves from people that take advantage of this.

Mr Farnell was 39 when he first appeared in court to face the assault charges, which related to events in 1982 and 1983. He was aged 25 and 26 at the time, court papers obtained by Fairfax Media show.

He was also convicted of three charges of procuring a girl under the age of 13 to indecently deal with him.

The documents detail how Mr Farnell held “secretive meetings” with the girls in a garden shed or at home.

He was accused of touching them inappropriately and making them carry out sexual acts.

“They are prone to depression, they have difficulties in forming relationships and they suffer from sexual problems,” Judge O’Sullivan said.

“None of that is surprising because you by your conduct robbed these girls of their childhood and for that reason it’s fair to say that the law takes a strict view of offences of this kind.”

Mr Farnell was jailed for three years. While serving his sentence he was later charged and convicted of further child sex offences.

At a second sentencing in 1998 by a different judge, Judge Gunning, Mr Farnell was told he showed “no remorse”.

He was convicted of four counts of indecently dealing with a child under the age of 13 while he was at his parents’ house and sentenced to a further 18 months in jail.

I know the joys of bringing up children is something rare and wonderful.
However research seems to say that once a Pedophile always a Pedophile.

And we need to protect the child and the mother.

So I believe the answer to the question is NO NO NO.

I don't think biological reproduction can be controlled that easily and I think Adrianna brings up a good point. If the government decides who can and can't procreate, what does that begin in society? Should the government have that power? Adoption, is a different situation. I am sure that there are plenty of loving capable citizens wanting to have children. Therefore, those who aren't shouldn't even be on the list to be able to adopt.

What about the families who profit by selling their children to pedophiles/prostitution.......South East Asia, Madagascar....full of it. As the child now seen as having more value it receives better health care (relative) etc.
Something like 700 registered sex offenders traveled to Thailand last year...guess why?
Their appetites for young flesh being fed and their perversion almost being legitimized , I believe it creates a greater desire when they travel home to the west and puts more children at risk.
Look at the pedophile priests...they are never going to have children anyway so if some pedophile law or sterilization came about it would not affect them anyway.
Look at the Arab/Islamic culture....a child can be wed at any age (no age laws), lovely 8 or 9 year old virgin bride
to be ripped to shreds by some 20 year old sex starved man. And everyone gets to admire the blood on the sheets
and clap their hands.
I was a juror for a rape case ....8 year old Aboriginal girl & step father. Long story short he won! It came down to her word against his. So even when you know it goes on try and prove it!!! Again if some law comes about it would not affect this guy, as he just used someone else's children.
Then in some cultures there are passages to manhood....say where the 13 year old boy sucks the semen from the tribal elders....swallowing and thereby taking in his manhood.
Up until the 1930's you could still get married at the age of 12 in Scotland!!
The story of the Kite Flyer (Afghanistan) where the manager of the orphanage allows for a large sum of money, one boy to be sodomized by an arm official. He justifies his action because without the money many other children would starve and die.

I would like to know why pedophiles do what they do....whats the attraction for destroying innocence . Do the see it as love /lust? Is there any other way they can get their rocks off. Do they have any empathy.
Something like 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 7 boys have experienced some form of sexual abuse in this country.
Staggering statistics!!

I know........can't understand what is going on in their heads. I have heard of women who stay with rapist boyfriends and even defended them..............again as it was said before there is no cure and control is.......yeah well.......not something you can rely on.
