Clavell wanted fugitive.....held up in a Brothel inside the CBD in Adelaide...working girls held at bay, but were releasted shortly before Clavell killed himself. Wonder if he had his last BJ while waiting. And what a happy ending he had indeed...I was really expecting a shoot out bummer....like the wild west... :arghh::arghh::arghh:

I feel sorry for the ladies he held hostage, they will be quite traumatised and we all know there is no workers comp in their line of work and I would presume they may be out of sorts for quite a while. I wonder if they will qualify for a victims of crime pay out,,I believe they deserve it.

That would be a pretty nasty experience for those girls and I hope they are given, or get for themselves appropriate counselling. I have seen at first hand the effect a lethal threat can have. One girl I knew back in my corporate life was a bank teller who had been involved in two holdups - one where she was directly threatened. After that she asked to be transferred to "back-office" duties as she could not handle the front counter any more. It also affected her in her dealings with other people but, so far as I know she did eventually get over it ( so far as you can).

Unless you have been on the business end of a firearm with an unknown quantity holding the butt you can't imagine what it is like.

Rodney Clavell barricaded hostages inside building

Fugitive Rodney Clavell used barricades to keep four women hostage in the Adelaide brothel where he was holed up, police have revealed. The 46-year-old former prison guard and prisoner shot himself dead after a 13-hour siege in the inner-city brothel, after releasing the women on Thursday.
During the siege, police would not confirm the women were hostages, but Assistant Commissioner Paul Dickson this morning confirmed they were held against their will. "We now know that they left and sometime after that he made the decision to commit suicide by using the firearm," he said.
Major Crime detectives were back at the brothel this morning collecting more evidence.

They do not believe Clavell was living at the brothel, but had moved from one location to another during the 17 days he was on the run. Mr Dickson said police had no direct contact with Clavell during that time, but believed he would have heard their pleas through the media for a peaceful end to the siege. A television was on when police entered the brothel and found Clavell's body.

Clavell’s older brother arrived at the scene last night and said the 46-year-old was a good man. "He was a gentle giant he wouldn't hurt kids, he wouldn't hurt other people even with these ladies here he wouldn't have hurt them," he said.
"It came on the radio and I just started crying. "I love him so much, it just brought back memories of when I used to babysit him." South Australian police escort a woman believed to be a hostage during a siege involving fugitive Rodney Clavell.
The siege involving STAR (Special Tasks and Rescue) Group officers caused chaos in Adelaide’s CBD. Thousands of commuters, workers and residents were barred from several blocks in central Adelaide while to siege drama played out. Replacement public transport went around the cordoned-off area, just up the road from the court precinct - a place not unfamiliar to Clavell, a former prison officer and prisoner. A few interested members of the public waited at the cordon line. Billie Morrison said she was riding her bike to the law firm where she works when she was told the area was cordoned off. "It was very daunting and nerve-wracking, as you can see the streets are very empty and quiet," she said. "There would be hundreds of offices closed down. There are barristers' chambers, there are medical centres, a chemist. There are a lot of buildings and businesses in this area."Ms Morrison said she had never seen anything like it in Adelaide. "You hear about it all over the world but you don't expect it to be at your doorstep first thing in the morning,” she said.

It is being treated as a death is custody and will be subject to an investigation and a report will be prepared for the coroner. Assistant Commissioner Dixon said a robot had entered the building just before 1pm, prior to a STAR Group team moving into the building and confirming Clavell’s death at 1.40pm. Earlier, an associate of Clavell warned the fugitive had vowed to kill if cornered by police. Clavell reportedly stayed at the woman’s home in Adelaide’s inner southern suburbs on Sunday night before she dropped him off at massage parlour, Marilyn’s Studio in King William St on Monday.

She said Clavell was in possession of a .22 rifle and a bag of ammunition. "He thinks they have it in for him, he will take police out," the friend told News Corp. "He knows he won’t survive this alive today." One of the women was visibly distressed as she was helped from the building by police to a nearby car, while the other three were escorted by armed officers. A warrant was issued for the 46-year-old former prison guard on May 22 in relation to firearm and other matters. Since then, police have conducted more than 80 raids in their pursuit of the state's most wanted man, before a tip-off lead them to the premises on King William St in the early hours of Thursday. A death in Custody? Really? The perpetrator was on the run (accidents happen and people escape, no system is infallible), these ladies have to live with their experience for the rest of their lives, blame the criminal not the law.

Naughty Thoughts

I heard about this on the radio and when they said the ladies had been released, my first thought was that those poor ladies have had their faces plastered in the media. Now their friends and family know they were working. Hope none of them had been hiding it from their partners... :(

Ahoy;- some of the four women where able to hide their faces from the media, these women are victims and they where questioned by the police and given hospital care by the state but be assured they will be hunted down by the media. I feel sorry for them their worlds where completely changed by this incident caused by
Rodney Clavell, as well the police who have been hunting him down for two weeks where very virile with using the media asking time and time again to give himself up to the authorities.
As far as I can see, I suspect these women will be long-term victims, its very sad situation for them but I am sure this story will be in the media in the months to come.

Turning up for another night at work totally unaware of what lay ahead....terrifying! I really feel for them-I hope their identities are protected from the public

I'm getting a little sick of hearing how he was really a pretty nice bloke. The man levelled a loaded 12 gauge shotgun at police officers and pulled the trigger. Good riddance to bad rubbish. If you don't agree, have you ever seen the damage a 12 gauge can do? I know a bloke who loaded one with solids and cleared his block with it.

I agree Reggie
And it does not matter if its a shotgun or a decommissioned .22 with a barrel filled with lead
Its the threat of having a firearm pointed at you thats the problem
