Famed American singer-songwriter Lou Reed, a seminal figure in rock music, has died, US media reported Sunday. He was 71.

Sales of Lou Reed's music have soared since the death of the iconic singer in New York on the weekend.
Reed's classic Transformer, featuring his signature tune Walk On The Wild Side, has gone back into the Top 10 in the UK on the iTunes chart and is at 21 in Australia and 30 in the USA.
Walk On The Wildside has re-entered the Top 100 worldwide and fans are mostly focusing on the songs Perfect Day, Dirty Blvd and Satellite of Love as individual downloads.
The 1967 album The Velvet Underground & Nico, featuring the famous Andy Warhol designed banana cover, is the most popular of The Velvet Underground releases.
Chart figures for Lou Reed in the USA, UK and Australia are:
Australia: Transformer at 21, The Very Best of Lou Reed at 36, New York at 84, The Velvet Underground & Nico at 92. Walk On The Wild Side is at 81, Perfect Day at 131 and Dirty Blvd. at 200.
USA: Transformer is 30, The Essential Lou Reed is 31, The Velvet Underground & Nico is 36, Rock and Roll Animal is at 59, New York is at 87 and Berlin is at 176. Walk On The Wide Side is at 50 and Perfect Day is 156.
UK: Walk On The Wild Side is at 48, Perfect Day at 59 and 95 and Satellite of Love is 196.
Transformer is at 10, The Very Best of Lou Reed is at 44, The Velvet Underground & Nico is at 70 and New York is at 100.
Lou Reed died on Sunday October 27 at age 71.

This tune is sweet Jane done by the Cowboy Junkies, in my mind the best recording of this song/tune

I love Lou Reed and was shocked to hear he'd passed. He had been still so active in the music scene. I know he did a song with Gorillaz on their last cd and I think with Metallica just recently.
I will miss him so :eek:(
