My husband bought me my first record player last week! I'd been wanting one for a while.

So do you still have a record player? What was your first record?

So one of the many other hats I wear is I'm also a DJ ... some of my electronic dance music collection is on vinyl. Drum & bass, breaks, house, trance. Got a Technics 1210 circa 2003. Beautiful piece of equipment. Love records. Very tactile, I think it gives the music more meaning if you have a visual/solid relationship with the format. and record cover artwork/liner notes. Soooo good! x

I think my first record was mum's original copy of Jesus Christ Superstar the Broadway musical. Followed closely by The Best Of ABBA. What was yours?

Ah, halcyon days indeed...

'The Best of ABBA was one of the biggest selling vinyl albums in Australian history, selling over a million copies. At one stage RCA Records couldn’t keep up with the demand for the albums in the country's shops, and copies had to be pressed under licence by a rival record company. In both countries, this album charted better than all the other ABBA releases.'

Sadly, I never bought a vinyl record myself (cassettes were the medium I began collecting with my pocket money for the Walkman), but I think the first vinyl singles that were purchased on my behalf -- when I would've been around five or six -- included Rhinestone Cowboy and LA International Airport (I was into cowboys and aeroplanes big time). Still love those songs. :)

PS. My first cassette was ABBA's The Singles: The First Ten Years and, years later, first CD was Super Trouper.

Wow - I almost forgot about that one - Jesus Christ Superstar - it was brilliant in its day.

I have heaps of vinyl and use my record player regularly, cranking up blasts from the past such as Iggy Pop's 'The Passenger' and The Stranglers 'Peaches' with some Tom Waits thrown in, etc, etc. First record was Rolling Stones when at high school...had to smuggle that one into house as Stones considered too outrageous. Thanks for the mammeries....umm I mean memories.

I have heaps of vinyl and a quadraphonic system that my mum left me. Sounds awesome! My first record I think was Black Betty by Ram Jam.
