Not only to our Anzac's of years gone by, but also to our current crop of serving Anzac's, we thank you for your service, and we hope that some of the terrible trauma that befell those that went before and kept us free will not have to be experienced by the young ones.

Having been to the trenches in France from WW1 and also Dachau Concentration Camp near Munich, where 42,000 people died, I just wish we could learn something form those horrors. My grandmother once told me my grandfather had taken her to Auschwitz. Her advice was very clear, "never go there".

Today is a very special day to remember the sacrifice of those who served in past and present conflicts. The innocence of a generation and a country was lost on the beaches of Gallipoli but their sacrifice heralded the birth of this great nation.

My Great Uncle was part of the landing force and survived although his ship was sunk in the Dardanelles with the loss of many lives. Other family members also served and two made the ultimate sacrifice. I have vivid recollections of stories about the Great War and the suffering that everybody endured.

Today is a day to remember and reflect. A time to thank those who fought to protected our way of life and those who are protecting it to this day.

Agree. Having has a relative who went there I was also told that (family on mothers side are German and they said its awful place not all germans were pro Hitler)- tragic terrible place full of the spirits of lost & tormented souls. I have a nephew on a 4 or 5th tour in Afganistan, my grandfather ( fathers side) died in WW2 when his boat of which he was a captain was bombed by the germans and sank. One can only hope that the generations going on after us can never have to experience that sort of thing again.
Any loss of life is sad regardless and I personally find it sad that we 'celebrate it'. Its a tragedy all around .Families torn apart by war, sons lost - Australia England where ever - So sad all around. Maybe thats just a 'mothers' view tho. :sorry::(
