You overlook the important psychological aspect of it. There's actually few discussion topics on YouTube about this. Explains this phenomenon and popularity of OF even though porn is free and widely available.

It meets the needs of each person individually. You can actually, send direct messages and they will engage in a conversation with you, which does seem personalised. This would not occur under normal circumstances. Many have the curiosity of seeing someone, who they previously followed on Instagram or other social media or even the girl next door naked or in a sex act.

"Why pay for porn" is a completely valid argument. I have no problem with that. However Onlyfans brought on a new personal prospect to porn. You could suggest they do certain things, call you by name, do your certain niche fetish. Porn is trying to make money so they will do what's generally wanted. Onlyfans bridged the gap where you could commission someone to do your particular fetish and likes. It's art in a way. A more personal experience. Just an opinion. 💜

Speaking of obsessed fans I was watching a doco the other day about young Japanese idols in a girl singing group. There were like probably 50+ men obsessing over them. They would spend thousands a month buying their merchandise. They do meet and greets and one of them explained when shook my hand or said my name it was like receiving it from a crush. This partly explains the phenomenon
