A bit of English history for you

There is a old pub in London in the Marble Arch that had a gallows adjacent to it Prisoners were taken there to be hanged After a fair British trial of course

A horse drawn dray , carting the prisoner was accompanied by a armed guard who would stop the dray outside the pub and ask the prisoner if he wanted "One last drink"

If he said Yes it was called "One for the road"

If he declined he was "On the wagon"

We get some of our everyday wordings from the damndest places in history

Anyone know of others?

P.S. HP Dallas Obbie and Rochelle Now you know why I m desperate to get back off the wagon;)

Bees Knees.

When bees flit from flower to flower the nectar sticks to their legs. The phrase "bee's knees" means sweet and good, because the knees of the bee are where all the sweet, good stuff is collected.
