Sorry to hear that you are ill, Obbie. I can't help with info, for I've never had radiation treatment, but I suggest you'd be wise to follow your surgeon's advice.

OMG Obbie I am so sorry to hear. I so will keep my fingers crossed and thinking about you even more in 3 weeks time.
Now, good friend of mine did have radiation treatment after his surgery. It was necessary to avoid new tumors in case the cancer has already spread.
To be honest it was very hard on him physically and mentally but necessary.......no other choice. In his case the tumor was rather advanced so they had to put him through a very strong radiation treatment.
I don't know if you can mentally prepare yourself for it......of what I have seen it is not an easy time but hopefully worth while.

Hi Obbie, my ex had breast cancer about 5 years ago and she had to have chemo then radiotherapy afterwards. She found no noticeable side effects from it other than burning around the area for a few days afterwards. I don't know how strong a does she had though. Good luck with it, I'm sure it will all go well. Their treatment has come along way in the last few years.

Dude hope all is well, if you have radiation it kills the nerves so if the cancer come back it could be an issue for further treatment. This is based on previous experience

Ouch but ask for a george clooney remodel while your under :p

My brother had radiation therapy. Of course it sucked but really it wasn't that hard as mentally he's fairly tough. If it's going to help you just dig in and get the job done right? Had a few side effects (nausea and fatigue) but it passed pretty quickly. 5 years on there a no issues and he's had a happy and healthy daughter. Dad had bowel cancer and many skin cancers and I reckon bowel was the worse.

I think he went 3 times a week for a month or something? has doc said it'll work?

Radiation is such a double edged sword. Ie the radition from a mammogram. They have saved countless lives but theres "studies" saying they can actually cause cancer. cant win!!

The doc didn't say a lot not that I was really with it at the time but I got to do it if it's needed

Yes, do so. Ask him again, write down questions you might have, get him to explain everything to you you want to know. Better over-prepared than half prepared.
...........and yep....looking at it from the 'half full' rather than the 'half empty' side of things.........there is a face life coming your way ;)
please keep us posted how you go.

Mate, sorry if this late.

Let us know how you go with the therapy. Any type of such program is unthinkable to go through; at least from what I gather. I would honestly have no idea what's it like since I have never undergone or instructed towards any intensive health & recovery program but I may never know; the future is indeed uncertain in or of itself for me too.

Having said that, I do apologise that I do not know anyone in mind of whom are familiar with radiation chemotherapy :(. But among families & genetics - thyroid disorders which can lead to cancers are perhaps possible; and it may very well involve radiation treatment too...but thankfully no one that I know of has had the confirmation.

It may be best to fully trust your doctor/s for all that they can do to help you on recovery...rather than trying to cutting possible costs...I imagine it must be really hard. Keep us posted however, and hope things are under control. Best wishes.

Sorry to hear that, Mr. Obbie. Hope it goes well. I haven't been through this kind of procedure. But had few relatives who had cancer tumours removed and they are still alive and kicking.

Yes, that is a real kick in the teeth and I hope everything goes well for you.

My suggestion, for what it is worth, is to do as much research as you can on the subject and if you have any questions, ask your specialist. Also, don't hesitate to get a second opinion if there is any doubt about the need for either surgery or radiation treatment.

All the best for a successful operation and a speedy recovery.
