I found it quite amusing the number of people who were really loving Crazy Town's "Butterfly" - but were then all shocked when they heard the other music by that band. They're not exactly a bunch of romantic lads. Their song "Revolving Door" is more along the lines of their attitude to ladies...

Nu-Jazz/ Nu-Soul, Ambient/Dub/Downtempo, Trip Hop, Deep Soulful House, Tech House / Minimal... These are the genres for the subdued, elusive listeners of erotica . Certainly hard to dig in record stores (both local and online) but certainly rewarding when you do find one!
Anyway, IMO - "music that puts us in the mood" can come in two categories - one that simply presents the moment of "doing" it, and/or one that gives you the art of "reflecting" upon it.
