Hi TS folks..

Has anyone done those long. haul flights on Qantas. Perth-London/ Perth-Rome/ Perth-Paris Non Stop ? if so what were they like?

regards.

A guy I spoke to said they used to call him the cat as he could sleep anywhere. He said he fell asleep taking off in New York and woke up when they checked to see if his seat belt was on for landing in London. Or it was London to New York I can't remember. But no I haven't done any long haul flights. Only Perth to Canberra and vice versa. One time was on a cheap virgin flight and there was no food and I was absolutely starving.

Perth to London direct 17 hours. Pretty good going over as you board early evening and arrive in London very early morning, feels like a (long) overnight flight. If you can sleep on a plane most of the trip is asleep. Coming back leaves London around midday and arrives Perth midday (5am London time) so disruptured sleep/possible jetlag. But overall I found it pretty good, seat selection can impact on such a long flight.

I find long haul flights a mental challenge and all in the attitude.

I try and focus on what is waiting for me at the other end of the journey and the travel is the price I pay for it.

Good noise cancelling headphones are a must and a neck or back pillow can be moved around to suit if it gets uncomfortable.

The other most important thing is drink a lot of water and less alcohol to avoid dehydration.

To be honest I do like a stop over on my way to Europe. Love to get out in Sing, Dubai, Bangkok, Doha, walk around, stretch my legs. Bad enough for me to sit relatively still for 10 hours plus. On 17hours non stop flight I would drive my seat neighbour/s crazy with my restlessness.

We did Perth - London - Perth Economy direct last October..... The flight there was 17hrs and we did it fairly easy took off around 5.30pm watched a few episodes read a little had dinner took a sleeping tablet and slept for a bit and then dozed for a fair while Landed at around 5am headed to accommodation showered changed and went exploring had an hour nap around 2pm then headed out for a night bus tour got home crashed woke up the next morning feeling fine and well adjusted to the time difference.

Coming home complete different story (in fairness I did get sick the last day so felt like I was dying lol) up and out of accommodation at 6am to get to airport then a lot of sitting around we were in Qantas club so at least we were comfortable. Boarded around lunchtime and it was a pretty uncomfortable trip home my throat was killing me though and made it suck even more. The flight attended applied me with peppermint tea the whole trip so that was fantastic. Turns out I actually had Covid so between that and jetlag I was wiped out for a good 4 days.

If I did it again I would probably economy on the way over and use points for business on the way home. But would definitely do it again it wasn't bad enough to put me off it.
