Perth rated most expensive city
AAP, The West Australian
July 10, 2013, 4:19 pm

Perth is now Australia's most expensive city and the 10th-priciest to live in worldwide, according to an online cost of living index.

Numbeo, a website that claims to collate the world's biggest database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide, now rates the Perth as more expensive than Darwin, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne for consumer goods, including groceries, restaurants, transportation and utilities.

And the list also christens Perth as the most expensive city in the southern hemisphere, with the rest of the top 10 taken up by cities in Switzerland and Norway - with Trondheim classed as the most expensive place to live in the world.

The Numbeo index, which is updated weekly, is based on a worldwide comparison of prices compared to those in New York City - with Perth rating 121.99, meaning on their analysis the city is 21.99 per cent more expensive than New York.

Almost to prove the point, it was revealed petrol in Perth is set to rise 16 cents per litre on Thursday to a five-year high average of 156.3 cents per litre.

Well as I'm about to move to Perth, this will take the pressure off the working ladies as it sounds like I will have to put more money into day to day living

Well the best thing about push bikes is you can't get speeding fines. I just got one in the mail from two months ago doing 100 in an 80 zone on the mitchell freeway (roadworks sign that I didn't see) $300!!! I can think of better ways to spend that kind of money :)

Indeedy push bikes can kill the petrol prices. But 1st they need to provision lanes for bikes in suburbia, it's just too dangerous these days to ride next to 4 wheelers.

I usually go against the trend, so if everyone is leaving Perth, sounds like just the place for me and who knows what opportunities might be left behind by those leaving :) Worst case scenario, I'll have a great summer!

People who succeed in life, are the ones who normally go against the trend...buying in a bear market and sell during the bull run. I do think that way but i need to bash chicken little in me into doing, instead of just thoughts.

Perths only dear if you want it to be
LiVe at a fraction of the cost of pretentious wanabes in the western suburbs
No doubt perths dirt cheap if you can get over yourself.
Perth is designed to rip off idiots and reward those who choose to pay far less

Thanks H2, I'm paying $1200 a quarter at the moment for heating and cooling so I can only see that getting cheaper!

That's what I figured, I know some people who are paying less rent than where I live now and have a great place but it's about 30min from the coast.

Yes as bushseeker and I think svengali said in a earlier thread why live on the coast with the exorbitant real estate and rates values Plus all that lovely salt on your nice car ,gutters windowframes etc
When you can live 1-2 suburbs back and still be minutes from the surf Or the leafy paradise of Midland Eh Col?

I firmly believe that in 60 years time Midland will be an expensive piece of real estate for it will transform into a seaside property!

'Tis expensive. But in saying that I own a nice 2 bed house about 100 yards from the beach. I think I earn right on median wage for Australia. I get by. Just. But... I don't drink and I don't eat out too often. As for holidays? Forget it.

Do you mean a tsunami will sweep through WA and most of coastal area will be under water, making Midland the new Cottesloe? Well i better stop my flatulence then, and thinking of buying couple of real estate there. lol

I think if I'm within a km or so of the beach I'll find some reasonable real estate prices but be able to make use of the tsunami for a decent surf :)

I've noticed that pretty much everything in Perth costs a lot more than the east coast, I don't know that it can last though.

Well last year or there abouts some publicans were blaming the mining boom for the price of beer even Saying that staff would say we expect a extra in our pay because we can get so much more in the mines
That came across as an attempt of false justification I mean People who's skill is pouring a beer waitressing etc are not going to get jobs in the mines
Its a case of many business trying to make money out of the boom even though the boom is not helping the majority of Western Australians directly

For el cheapo haircuts, go to Noranda Shopping centre if your NOR, theres a super efficient haircut place called F10 fastcut i think, $10 haircut for all old, young, male female. Slot your 10 buckaroos into the machine and out comes a ticket. Hold on till your no. is called. High turnover, they have shops in SOR too. But enter at your own risk lol...

Playing devil's advocate here. Armada, if someone said; "Langtrees is expensive and full of expensive women whereas over East or in Thailand, I'd get it for half the price!" Your reply would be along the lines of (I suspect); "Living in Perth isn't cheap. Secondly you're paying for quality well above anywhere else and thirdly, if you know of cheaper places - by all means go there and you'll appreciate the difference."

Doesn't the same apply when you use a good service then?

I'm living out of a single bed at a backpackers, but I don't need much, just two bags and a locker. Could do without the drinking rowdiness tho...yes they get girls into their dorms too! :dontknow: I don't hear them though, deafness is a good benefit at times. Just circling like a iced over vulture house-wise atm lol.

"Armada, if someone said; Langtrees is expensive and full of expensive women whereas over East or in Thailand, I'd get it for half the price!"

PS

Playing devils advocate Contrarian, before you get to East or Thailand and spend with lady $ 50 dollars for all night (or PNG) you get everything else for free... In Langtrees, at least, to your plus, you know we all got MEDICAL CHECK on regular basis. On top of it you would pay for flight and accommodation if you want to get cheap sex in Thailand ( $ 5 dollar - 5 dollar love you long time, you hear that in Thailand!) or East. So, there is a catch to everything...
And quality....I am not sure, where quality of service would be better. At least ladies in Langtrees dont work for a bowl of rice.

I'm guessing most guys that go to Thailand aren't just there for one transaction. They'd see plenty of ladies. And WL's aside... it's a holiday. A break from the daily grind. In any case I hardly think Thailand is cutting in to Langtree's business!
Walk out of Langtree's and you're still in shitty Perth! :)
