Life after death

A recent passing of a loved one got me thinking about life after death or the afterlife

Would be interested in knowing people's thoughts on what they think happens. Just nothingness & empty void or your soul is separate to your physical form & it continues on

Been watching few things about consciousness and stories about near death experiences, which makes you want to believe there is more.

For me, I think the brain is so powerful that as it knows the lights are going to be shut down, its last act is to secrete these last surge of hormones or impulses to calm you in this time of need. May explain, the stories of white light, feeling of love and memory flashbacks. Could explain why certain drugs produce same feelings.

Anyone have near death experiences to share?

As much as I'd like to believe there is something more after my death I believe the reality is there's not. It's hard being one of only a few species that are cognisant of our own mortality and I'm sure that's been a driver in creating lots of spiritual alternatives. The cynic in me could say that many have seen fear of death as a great opportunity to fleece the flock with false promises. Enjoy every moment now as that's all there is and make room for the next lot of punters when our time comes.

I'm interested that it took/takes a death of someone closer to make yout think of death.. because of all the possibilities and opportunites that life gives anyone in any given place on earth the ONLY certain thing is dying.
So for me I believe it deserves a little more thought time.
Remember this .. the absence of proof is NOT proof of absence.
And a question .. why is SO much time and money spent ( billions every year) looking for proof of life "out there" if science actually believes in it's own theory of evolution ??
Yes , I believe there is a 'afterlife' for ever human , and the spirit world is a here-and-now.. which will then be the only form of 'life' after the body is eaten by worms ..

I believe we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
Possibly here (hell) until we pass the test. Those who fail early die young to try again and those who passed quickly die young to move on to the next experience.
Not sure where that may lead but we are all just dying to find out 😆😆

Well, I am not sure what comes next. It definitely makes you wonder. As I gotten older I think about death alot, not sure if it is normal to think this much about it or not. I truly want to believe that there is more some great secret that we finally get let in on. There has to be more right or this is all just for nothing and that is just stupid. But if you look at it from the other side why would there be more after all your body takes up to six days for every part of you to die down to the last cell. If we die at different rates of speed then how do we know what part made us, us and where it went I'm just confused now. I guess somethings just aren't meant to be known.

I too lost a loved one recently and it did make me ponder my own mortality and what comes after. I have absolutely no idea of what comes next nor if there really is a next. I am sure we have all heard about near death experiences and the stories that some have told about having died brieftly and been revived and returning to life.

I guess we will never know because we cant actually talk to those who are permanently dead (some may believe we can communicate with the so called spirit world).

Well for me I would rather not focus on pondering, all I know is that actual life is way to short and I would rather focus on making the absolute utmost of that life that I have left.

Personally I believe, once you die..............you can walk in to a bar and order a rum, have a drink and get another.
You never need to pay for the drink.
Just like watching a movie today, no one pays for their drinks when they are at a bar??????????????

I think of the brain as a computer. Once the plug is pulled it makes a good, if slightly bulky doorstop and isn'T good for much more.

Everything you experience you experience with your brain so when that dies and the body stops functioning you are just meat to be disposed of before it stinks too badly.

As To an "Afterlife" that is just something invented by the clergy to try and control people and empower themselves and through early indoctrination of children and running schools they have perpetuated this mythology for centuries. They have even infiltrated the U.S. congress and our parliament, the Liberal party at least, but the tide is now turning and I think the next census results will show a decline in religion.

Trouble is you only discover the truth when it is too late to change anything.

What you leave behind are the memories and items with those who knew you. Things like the things you created - writings, items made with your hands or similar.
Sadly, nothing for you.
