Learnng to Love - Chapter Dare I Love

Hi everyone. Found a book with a great chapter on sex for people with profound physical problems. May be a bit outdated but interesting. Here's an excerpt from it where Heather a paraplegic 22 yrs talks about her sexuality with the author

‘What about sex now heather? Can you describe what you feel?'

'Well, for starters I do get aroused and very moist. I have a deep pressure sensation. You know, I can’t feel you stroke my thigh, but if you press against my thigh with your finger I can feel that.
I’m not sure about all the movements my husband makes in my vagina-but I can feel a deep pressure. I also know when I ‘m menstruating so it’s quiet sensitive.
In spite of no sensation on my skin below my waist, I’m aware if the clitoris is touched. I know my breast have become hypersensitive. I can have an orgasm if my husband fondles my breasts.’

Hi Mary-anne

Found the book at a second hand store! Think I must have the only one in the world. Googled it and no results for this particular book, but i did find out that the author is a South African psychiatrist specialising in sexual health. I will post some more excerpts on the forum and lend the book to you soon.

‘……Could you give us a little more detail? Do you ejaculate? Do you actually have an erection?”

‘Yes I do. And many chaps do. It depends on the level of damage in the spine. I can’t feel I’m having an erection unless I look, or touch it with my hand. I can certainly penetrate and ejaculate’

‘Can you feel you are ejaculating?’

‘Not down there. Not really. I feel the orgasm in my chest and the top of my abdomen. It gets tight and I get hot waves coming from the pit of my stomach. I know some guys who can’t raise an erection. They still get aroused and have a kind of mental orgasm. Especially those who had sex before they became paraplegics. They kind of reproduce the memory.’
