Hillary Clinton is in Perth at the moment and I saw on TV that she must have had at least 5 security cars at the front as well as 5 at the back, also she had a couple motorcycle police escorts as well. Is she really that important or is it just for show? I`m sure Julia isn`t that well protected. I can remember years ago as a teenager I was able to tap Bob Hawke on his shoulder and ask for an autograph...

I think the security that US officials have is ridiculously over the top. Americans in general have become paranoid, really afraid of their shadows, and this fear extends to their government officials too. This paranoia is most visibly on display going through security at any US airport. It drives me crazy and embarrasses me - I'm an American.

Well I'm no lover of the American culture, politics, way of life or scare mongering that occurs; but to me it's fairly obvious and common sense:

She is a Senator, former Presidential candidate, wife of a President, currently rumored to be the next Democratic Presidential candidate and one of the most known and divisive individuals on the planet.

More than 35 American politicians have been assassinated, many many more have had assassination attempts including pretty much every modern day president and candidate.

Would you want significant security if you were in her shoes?

Last year i stayed at the same hotel as Hillary Clinton and security was intense. Full walkways blocked with black sheets, guards that alledgedly have listening devices that can hear a whisper etc. Very clear they were serious.

Couple of years ago i met the current Vietnamese prime minister in a hotel foyer and there was really just a couple of casual minders. A few weeks ago the president of vanuatu was a few seats in front of me on a plane and he just had a bit of an entourage but certainly pretty relaxed.

I think the yanks just want to show the world how big their security dick is. I bet Hillary could walk down hay street by herself and very few people would even care or know who she is.

Been an international public figure, yes she needs the security. It’s easy to say America is paranoid, but the sad truth is over the decades their Politian’s have been targeted. My personal view is American security is a public show; they have decided a couple of decades ago that they will be seen in public with their officials, good on them. Other International countries still apply the “Blend in to the environment technique” The Pope has his Pope Mobile which I think is just great.
I was really amazed by Australian security when our PM was placed in harm, they got her out of the area and in the car, but, held back with fire power and brute force, I was impressed, those guys have shot to kill under threat orders “I am sure the silly protestors had no idea how close they got from a bullet”

Bill, Hillary and the Lockbox

When Bill and Hillary first got married, Bill said, "I am putting a box under the bed. You must promise never to look in it." In all their 25 years of marriage, Hillary never looked.

However, on the afternoon of their 25th anniversary, curiosity got the best of her and she lifted the lid and peeked inside. In the box were three empty beer cans and $81,874.25 in cash. She closed the box and put it back under the bed. Now that she knew what was in the box, she was curious as to why.

That evening they were out for a special dinner. After dinner, Hillary could no longer contain her curiosity and she confessed, saying, "I am so sorry. For all these years I kept my promise and never looked into the box under our bed. However, today the temptation was too much and I gave in. But now I need to know, why do you keep the cans in the box?"

Bill thought for a while and said, "I guess after all these years you deserve to know the truth. Whenever I was unfaithful to you I put an empty beer can in the box under the bed to remind myself not to do it again."

Hillary was shocked, but said, "Hmmm, Jennifer, Paula, and Monica. I am very disappointed and saddened but temptation does happen and I guess that three times is not that bad considering the years." So they hugged and made their peace.

Then Hillary asked Bill, "So why do you have all that money in the box?" Bill answered sheepishly, "Well, whenever the box filled up with empty cans, I took them to the recycling center and redeemed them for cash."
