Gwyneth Montenegro once charged between 500 and 1,000 Australian dollars (around $475-$950 USD) per hour
A former escort who slept with more than 10,000 men has opened up about how she went from a girl next door from a religious family to a high-end escort who binged on cocaine and was wined and dined by millionaires.
In total, Gwyneth Montenegro slept with 10,091 men during her 12 years in the industry - that's about 70 clients a month.
"Life was a blur of money and drugs and French champagne," the 36-year-old Aussie told the Daily News of her exploits, which included lavish dinners and jet setting to exotic locations.
"I've had the out-there clients. The funny ones. The one that flashed himself in front of a lagoon-style pool at a motel," Montenegro said. "(In that case) I grabbed my clothes and I was out the door."
Montenegro kept a journal during her 12 years as an escort and kept track of the more than 10,000 men she slept with.
Affluent businessmen, lawyers and politicians sought out her services, and many of them were married.
"A lot of the men love to please the woman," she said. "They want to make sure you are happy sexually as well."
Montenegro started out as a table top dancer when she was 19. That led to brothel work, which segued into becoming a high-end call girl at age 21. Before long, she was charging her wealthy clients between 500 and 1,000 Australian dollars (around $475-$950 USD) per hour.
Montenegro's high-class clients included wealthy businessmen, politicians, musicians and lawyers, many of whom were married.
She dropped thousands on clothes and cars and lived in a penthouse apartment.
But this lavish lifestyle brought with it access to drugs. By her early 20s, she had become addicted to cocaine and speed.
Everything came to a head when Montenegro got into a car accident at age 24.
TIn her book, Montenegro talks about getting gang raped at 18 and becoming a table top dancer at 19.
"It was a wakeup call," she said. "My life just flashed before me. The next thing I knew, I was rushed to the hospital."
She sustained minor injuries in the crash, and it sparked a life-changing decision - she came clean about her secret life to her parents, who thought she was making her money modeling.
"In that moment, my heart just broke and I felt like the most horrible person, looking into my mom's and dad's eyes and telling them this story."
Gwyneth Montenegro got her commercial pilots license at 29, but kidney failure caused her to lose her medical approval and go back to working as an escort. She has since gotten reapproved and flies for fun.
Her faithful parents stood by her and helped her get her life back together.
Montenegro beat her addiction and, in an effort to leave the sex industry behind, went after her dream of learning how to fly a plane.
"Getting the commercial pilots license was the happiest moment of my life," she said.
Gwyneth Montenegro, 36, writes about her sexy escapades and how her lavish world of drugs and rich men came crashing down.
However, kidney failure grounded her and she fell back into escorting for a few more years. She retired for good at 33.
Montenegro wrote "10,000 Men and Counting" not only to "share the sexy stories and lift the lid on the secrecy," but also to offer a frank look at what she said can be an isolating, lonely way of life.
"There are a lot of other books out there that glamorize the industry, but it's not the easiest profession to be in," she said. "Once you've done it, you can't take it back."
Montenegro told her parents she was making her money modeling.
"It's not 'Pretty Woman.' It's not like in the movies," she added.
Today, Montenegro, who is represented by uniquemediaPR, is an entrepreneur who flies light aircrafts for fun. She hopes to one day fly around Australia and shoot a documentary.
