I received a private message tonight to do a poll for Spelling and grammar and felt they were having a go at me ....
I have struggled with Dyslexia all my life....
I struggle with reading words and struggle with even remembering what letters look like or spell them ....
It is a constant battle
However Maryanne has pushed me hard to keep having a go ....
At work I am always asking the staff how to spell everything and
they have always been kind to stop and have patience to re spell the same word over and over again ....
So thank you
I do write all my posts in Word before I put them up ....
However they do not always make sense..
My dyslexia does makes me feel inadequate at times and frustrated however I still have a go..
So if you see that my post does not make sense please silently edit them for me ....

People are blind, people are deaf, people are dyslexic, people are short, people are fat, people are blonde, people are brunette, does this make them inadequate? No. They are just as adequate as anyone else.

I have dyslexia with maths :) Never understood it

Ms Sue, just like anyone with any sort of disability, or impairment/s - I truly sympathize.

There has been absolutely nothing wrong ever in your responses and replies to me (including your response to my ordeal back in December). Nothing in it as well as any other posts implies any sort of initial problems or trouble at all.

I for one do not even know (strictly the official / medical) symptoms for dyslexia, as it can be mistaken with so many other related illnesses, or just simply commonly presented as any event where someone just blanks out. Perhaps due to unexpected exposure to elevated stress, mental flashbacks, etc. I've certainly had many of these times at work even when I am regularly best supplemented with correct wholegrain diet, omega-3s, etc.

Hence, my respect goes for you as usual. As do I to anybody else who are officially on medications to help them.

Unlike many members here I find who make half-arsed attempts in stringing together proper paragraphs (or famously combining several into one) - I almost always made a backup copy in text edit and try my own best to proof-read each time before it is live; especially if it's a long writeup.

Of course, nobody is perfect and neither do I. I do make mistakes of my own hence recurring edits are inevitable to redeem myself at times whenever I feel the need to do so.

You know one does not have to be dyslexic to be bad at spelling & grammer
Especially these days when every one is short forming words
just to facilitate sms & texting...
it's almost a losing battle
:clown::bag::sour: :wtf:

Dyslexia is a genuine problem How can people have a go at someone for that ?

I have a bigger gripe with people who can spell and write correctly , but are to damn lazy too do so

It's funny how much school has brainwashed us to the point where knowledge and depth is everything.

Whilst true in many extent, initial/self discovery and experience is more important to me and everything else. In yr 9 - I've set my mind that I wanted to be a mechatronic engineer; one day. That was my dream.

Well, that's just the initial/self discovery part. But having the painful experience for failing five TEE subjects (that includes computing/info systems which I did proudly consider myself a squid back then!) really did prove something else otherwise. I couldn't make it through geography, physics, calculus nor even discrete maths.

I have borderline-failed at Yr 10 English, and even just barely made it through Yr 11 & 12 ESL.

But ironically I look at where I am now - creating brands and visual communications for million-dollar revenue industries across several agencies....and yet paid 20K lower than the national average since started six years ago as a creative.

One in 10 people have the problem can't spell the word. It is simply a centered brain. Albert Einstein was dyslex. and he is the only man to have a theory in the last 100 odd years. dyslexia.is not dumb its centered and all dyslexia..I know have a high level of common sense including myself. I had a minor form maybe a 2/10 self cured, my daughter Miss Rylie was a 8/10 and luckily I discovered the problem and could afford a tutor.
My youngest son is also a mild dyslexia about 3/10 and he was diagnosed by his English teacher in high school. Rose tinted glasses helped concentrate, and he finished high school.
His teacher got me to go to the courses at SPELD which really helped me understand, so when i found Rylie struggling, I was able to get her a tutor that took her through primary & secondary, as SPELD taught me the parent was the wrong person to help.
The written word was one of the true inventions of man, and simply put the human brian was not designed to read. A dyslexia can read and one moment later the language turns into gobbly gook and looks like Chinese. At that stage just walk away from it.

Too be honest I can't imagine what it's like. Myself and my kids can all read and write with no issues. I have watched friends struggle with this their whole lives though. Unfortunately sometimes it is misdiagnosed. One friend eventually went for a second opinion years and years later. It came about that both her eyes didn't focus at the same time, one a split second before the other, and this caused the brain to receive mixed messages. She did a whole heap of eye training and is a whole new woman now, it even increased her self esteem. It never hurts to have a second opinion and there are so many variables that could be the cause.
It's good people can talk about it :)

Ms Sue - it is nice to see that you are so well supported and that no one really has a problem with your dyslexia - whoever sent you the post for the spelling and grammar was a bit mean if they did it on purpose but this is not your problem it is theirs and hopefully they get over themselves soon...

when i was in primary school the class i was in was selected to take part in a new reading program , which entails speed reading . what you do is read every other word ( you pick out important words in a sentence ) then you read either side of that . which is good but @ times you miss the meaning of the document or book or the story line .

You would love your Defence lawyer to read the police and evidence this way wouldn't you?

Yeah I got the gist of the police's evidence against you Mr 2

I think it's OCD with me when it comes to spelling and word usage. I had to keep confirming I got the corect spelling, correct grandma, and correct word usage. TG for Google. Otherwise I be having fat fingers for foraging thru the thick pages of the dicktionary.

Subtle. I like your style.

My wife has dyslexia. I showed her a badge that had "Dyslexics untie!" Written on it and she yelled "Woo, dyslexics unite!" I didn't have the heart to correct her.

People should not be judging you on something like that, I feel for you. My younger sister has had dyslexia growing up her whole life, and I have seen people put her down for it. Some people are horrible. Theres one thing to correct someone on their spelling error; but its entirely a different ball game if someone can be low enough to put you down for it, or to use it against you.
