I'll be there but these days I just go to the local one rather than Kings Park. Bit more intimate but has bigger crowds each year.

Also don't forget that every day at 4.30pm (?) they are doing a service at Kings Park for those who cant make a dawn service

How old is he H2? What was his role in PNG? I know the aussies took over from the US mid 1945 in Bouganville, was he there.

Who know's what would have happened if the Japanese were successful in PNG? Fast forward a few years and its great the most aussies, japanese and yanks hold no grudges against each other.

Tell him some random bloke on the internet says thank you

I always used to go to the parade during the day.
But for the last 20+ years I normally go to the dawn service, and only occasionally go to the parade as well.
Being from the South Coast it will be the Albany Dawn Service as usual for me.

Strange thing, i used to look at this man who had lived through experiences that i could not even begin to imagine - having his mates beheaded in front of him for trying to escape, being worked and starved to death, sabotaging the work the Japanese made them do, etc., yet at parties, when he got together with a few mates from the camp, all they talked about was gardening, their cars, footy, etc.

So ordinary for such extraordinary men !

I have been to the Dawn Service. It is very emotional when they play "The Last Post", even if you don't have any family that were involved in war. It is a nice way to pay respect to those who were.

The original dawn service started by Pardre White. If our soldiers can defend our freedom ( or that of others ) then the least we can do is get up early, trek to a Dawn service, experience a little discomfort, cold and standing to give them a thought once a year.

It couldn't have been a better morning here. Hint of cooler weather but no rain

One of the air force boys read a diary exert from his grandfather and it moved me to tears.

Lest we forget.
