I had a fleeting moment of catching a news bulletin regarding possible use of multi storey car parks in the CBD for secure parking/camping at night for the homeless. Key point being these facilities have CCTV for safety.

Some councils issue on the spot fines even in areas that don’t have signage to warn of the charge.

Contacting RUAH may be a step in the right direction for assistance:

I used to do some support work in the early 2000s, RUAH also offered a day centre where homeless people could safely shower, access a cheap meal ($1 from memory) socialise and access support.

I noticed they moved into James Street in Northbridge from nearby Shenton Street due to development near Russell Square.

Note: Not just for the homeless, disadvantaged people who had accommodation, but little funds to feed themselves, could go to the day centre to socialise over tea/coffee, get a cheap meal and a food parcel. Unsure what is offered these days but would hope more now.

Sadly the situation is only going to get worse . Landlords are putting rent up to ridiculous prices . I was told the other day that rent on a single room unit is at $400 a week and possibility going up . That's if most can get a rental these days .

Become a Aussie backpacker use the hostels for showers cooking washing clothes until the government regulates affordable rents and more assessable public housing for Aussies.

@Obbie I watch content on WeChat and observed some people in China live in a room that barely fits a single bed and a small table/chair. Communal amenities but not sure what they pay.

By comparison I looked at New York how low income workers live and baffled how they can afford very meagre accommodation. Huge rental fees.

The culture appears to be just enough room to sleep, shower and reheat meals to which prepared meals are obtained from the variety of takeaway shops around the district.

Go to bp kewdale look like a truckie and get showers there if your stuck .
They usually have seperate shower washing machines at large truck stops for the transport workers as they buy lots of fuel and food.
These facilities are best kept for those who need them transport Workers unless you want to be a truckie or transport worker.

As for sleeping in a car, you would certainly want to be parked up in a covered area ... with all the expansive glass that a car possesses, parked up on open ground would make for a freezing cold interior on any winter's night !

I am sincerely sorry to hear of your situation. My heart goes out to you. I have been there many many years ago. Part of why I entered this industry. It lifted me out of a bad situation and rebuilt my life.

Other than homeless services. I would encourage you to look at shared accommodation, free or low-cost campgrounds. Many have showers and toilets and camp kitchens. Other people there are so much safer. Gym membership for shower. Car parks are not always safe places. Especially multi-level ones. Look at insulated window covers. You can make them yourself if need be. Truck stops/roadhouses are other options.
Hang in there sweetheart, I know things may seem bleak right now. Good things are just around the corner

Uniting church are selective like the salvos and do not assist everyone.
Lots of males in domestic violence situations find it hard to get any assistance.
